  1. Looks like the GFS is back to letting the good guys win (sort of). There are still hot days, but that’s not bad in a progressive pattern. The magnitude of the heat it shows over the Midwest is nothing to sneeze at (103 in Madison, 105 in Des Moines and 108 in Omaha would all shatter all-time September records), but it never makes it here in record form. We’ve seen this pattern from the GFS time and time again this summer, and it’s always been overdone, both here and in the areas of the Midwest where it’s shown ridiculous heat.
  2. Flow is a bit more zonal and ridge axis is a little more west, but there’s some agreement.
  3. EC at 240 looks like it’s going to align very closely with the GFS at 240.
  4. Only reasons I can think of that none of that stuff has been investigated is that either it would be nearly impossible to prove, or that the general public would accuse them of cooking the books and rewriting history. I hope it’s the former and not the latter.
  5. The 4 warmest Septembers in Pittsburgh in the past 90 years all occurred between 2015-2019. None of them make the top 10 overall.
  6. This is one of those rare months where PIT’s records are above MDT’s. Only day that hasn’t hit 90 is the 29th, and it’s hit 89 multiple times. Only 3 of the daily records have occurred in the past 65 years (2 in 2017 and one in 2018 during that period in 2018 that I believe PIT was reading erroneously high) and 17 of them occurred in the 19th century.
  7. I think there’s enough model disagreement to still have that hope.
  8. ...which allows some people in Texas to enjoy 50s while we’re baking in 80s.
  9. We’ll see. Big model differences at 240, so nothing is set in stone.
  10. Almost right on cue for recent Septembers, a CPC map without any blue to be found. At least we’re in the gray:
  11. So the person getting married is your second cousin? Is that distant enough to sneak the game onto your phone during the ceremony?
  12. At least for you guys, Penn State doesn’t open their season against Akron or Idaho or something, so you’ll know by tomorrow evening what kind of season it’s going to be.
  13. Their remaining cross-division games this year are against Nebraska and Purdue, and the only team in the East that has a prayer is probably Penn State, but that game is in Columbus. Unless Oregon beats them next week (also in Columbus), they’re going 12-0.
  14. Indeed, temperatures from hopefully 10 to unfortunately 90 will be seen during the existence of this thread.
  15. But didn’t @Itstrainingtimestart the summer thread the day of the solstice?
  16. Wonder what could have been if yinzers didn’t start those damn unfounded rumors about him during the lean years of the late ‘90s.
  17. The second coming of “Slash”... I hadn’t thought about Kordell Stewart in awhile.
  18. That time the ‘boys had a chance to score the most points in a Super Bowl...
  19. At least we know what we’ll get with Rudolph. Something like 17/26, 124 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, no passes that travel 10+ yards in the air, and if the defense can hold the opponent to 14 points or less we have a chance to win.
  20. I hope to god I never have to watch 4 consecutive quarters of Dwayne Haskins.
  21. But then you contrast it with Pittsburgh, and it seems to be the same as most other weather stats here. 8 of our top 10 occurred in the pre-Pittsburgh International era. The longest streak was 70 (1949) with no others above 46. If you limit it to stats observed at PIT (dates back to 1948) the 28 days ending August 31 is #5, just ahead of the streaks in 1988, 2012, and 2020, but falling short of 1995 and 2011 (all of the well-known recent hot summers except 2016).
  22. Several comments here. 1. it’s 3 days short of a record. 2. this is the first time in recorded history that MDT made it through July and August without dropping below 60. 3. Five of the top ten have been in the last 6 years.
