I plan to head on down to the point lookout beach (right on the cheasapeak) today or tomorrow to get sunset and Milky Way pictures. Any Mets have thoughts on which day would offer a good sunset and clear sky at night?
Some fun pictures of clouds from today! Got a cool shelf cloud from the storms that moved into FFX county along with a little cap cloud on some convection and then finished with a nice sunset.
Lots of wind associated with the backside anvil of the storms south of Reston. It’s been light rain but strong wind. Almost seems microbursty or evaporative heat driven but far less intense.
It just cleared my location and it was a nice break from the heat. Rain is beginning to form which doesn’t bode well for the end of swim season parry were supposed to have…
I’ve watched the same storm try to fire just north of me in Reston for the past 4 hours and it keeps failing. It seems like we’re just missing some ingredient for now.
Now the rain is winding down with around an inch total with temps knocked way down. Hoping that the storm entering louden is able to hold together enough to cancel my meet tonight.
I’m around 5 miles east of the airport and for a little bit the wind shifted to be out of the west and got pretty intense. Had to be a microburst over the airport.
Without power and the generator went out so having to carry buckets to prevent the basement from flooding. Can any met chime in on how much more rain/rounds of storms we may get and when?
Franklin farm (south of Reston) got one of the nastiest splits I’ve seen. Storms were to the north and south slowing congealing to be on top of us and then more or less jumped just east into a line.
