Front moving through with light snow. Gusty NW winds should pick up later. Looks like chilly winter-like weather the next few days. GFS likes to keep a significant system at the end of the month, and I do have something for April 1st in the Holiday 2022 thread. But that's few days off yet.

3" of slop recorded at the local coop site this morning. Just some snow showers lingering from the east fetch. This stuff is perfect for snowman building. Looks like 5-14" reported at locations up the shore from Silver Bay to the border.
-
After a week of really nice weather, still quite a bit of ice out on the Big Water. This weather system should reduce it quite a bit tho. Lake pic is from 20th, while ice chart is issued midday 21st. The chart data comes from pm 20th to am 21st sat data.
-
Raining with some snow starting to mix in now. A little ice on my ramp this morning. Winds are not bad today, up to 25-30 mph. Should turn to all snow later on today with 3-6" of slush by tomorrow. Temps are right at freezing at the moment, and will hover there until later in the night. Tis March EDIT: Starting to freeze on the roads with a little snow. Still mixed stuff, but getting icy out there. Update: All wet, heavy snow now at 4:30 pm. Starting to collect on the roads as sun angle is lower now.

Winds off the Lake getting a bit stronger. A good 40-45 mph now. As the system approaches, strong inflow of dry air can retard the precip for a few hours around the head of the Lake, lessening the totals. Get that radar donut hole.

That's very true for you guys, but up here tho, that would be a so-so call. Cold can linger a while longer here this time of year, but the sun angle still does its work during the aftrn, even if it's slowly.
-
Windy day with NE winds up to 35. Had some light mix move through this morning, rn/sn/sl. Looks like ice over to snow the next 48 hrs or so. Up to 0.25" of ice, then 3-6" of snow with 6-12" farther up the shore.

Season not quite over for me. Looking like the next couple weeks going to be rather interesting up my way.
-
Looking forward to the next couple weeks. Hoping some of these systems wrap up to bring me a good storm (blizzard??). Would be nice. I noted one potential in my Holiday forecast thread on April 1st.
-
Looks like temps for the next week will still be running around 40 for highs, and 25-30 for lows. Sloppy weather mixed in there with the rn/sn mix typical this time of year. Overnight always best for decent snows.
-
2010 was well above normal all 3 months, but 2012 had the more avg weather in April.
-
Boring, but nice weather. Temp's have been running in the 40's, with 30's for lows the last couple days. Melting is happening slowly but steady. With morning lows staying at or above freezing, the days warmth can work the snowpack much easier than if it had to put energy into warming it up first. Dirty snow banks are really shrinking now.

I was too aggressive with high pressure coming in over the Lakes, and did not have the system coming in from the southwest, so this was a miss.

Had about an inch of snow last night. And my furnace crapped out on me too. Waiting on heating guy to come and fix. The old gal got a good workout this winter. Now needs some TLC. At least it waited until the bitter weather was done. Using my gas stove for heat now, which is the reason for having a gas stove. That, and easier to cook with, too. Temps in the low-mid 30's today, with 15-20 for tomorrow morning. Then on to some 40/30 weather this week with some light mix thrown in there. That'll feel nice.

-10's to -20's away from the Lake again this morning. - single digits along the shore. Very cold start to the day. Near record to possibly some records fell this morning. March low records are rather variable from -10's to -30's for the area. Now spring weather can kick in with some nicer temps. There will still be chilly weather here at times, but the deep negatives should be over. - single digits are still on the table, tho, away from the lake the next couple weeks. By early April, even those become record territory.
-
Single digit lows this morning, and the wind has picked up out of the W up to 40 mph. Chilly day because of that. On sunny days, like today, the snow pack reflecting the sunshine keeps things on the brighter side. And with the longer days, and higher sun angle now, all that light really helps the mood.

Looks like -10's to -20's away from the Lake this morning. Very cold March morning. Looks like Sat a.m. is going to be the same, and then more spring like weather on tap. Had enough bitter weather this past winter season, time to move forward now. A nice blizzard would be nice tho.

Made them myself. Data of various datasets avg together. Took me some time to create them in Excel. https://psl.noaa.gov/data/atmoswrit/timeseries/index.html

With prelim data in, we see Feb on the colder side again this year. With the extremely mild Dec, coupled with a colder Jan & Feb, winter has ended up avg for the season.
-
Here's the ranking for the North Central US stations. Ranked from the coldest again this month. Max avg's were all over the board with well above to well below avg. Min avg's were near to well below normal. BTW, Hibbing, MN recorded this Feb as its coldest with temp records starting in 4/1938.

Interesting, latest GFS/NAM runs show a miss with the snow tonight. Basically taking the same path as the first wave this morning. If so, that's ok too. Plenty of snow here, and don't need any ice. Guess we shall see if that pans out.
-
Even if it disappears, probably be back to some degree with the roller coaster pattern this month.
-
First wave of snow/frz rn went through earlier this morning staying mainly to my south, and east. Looks like weatherbo has been seeing that stuff this morning. Looking at radar loop, precip that was frz rn over land quickly turns to all snow over the Lake. Colder air over the icy waters of Lake Superior.
-

Ice over Lake Superior at higher levels today, but with the storm system moving through, that will diminish quite a bit, as there is quite a bit of new, very thin ice out there. Along with ice piling up with the stronger NE over to NW winds.
