  1. Check these out. L4/L5 larvae of the Death's Head Hawkmoth. It puts the lotion on its skin. Ok back to my basement to continue sewing.... Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk
  2. Not sure if there are any other lep lovers here. I had this girl eclose a few days ago. It's actually an eacles imperialis form didyma. The female has much more dark markings on the wing margins than regular imperialis. They're very rare around here. In 20yrs of rearing and collecting down in Calvert co. I've never seen a didyma. Luckily she paired with a wild males, I hope some of her offspring have the same trait. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk
  3. All the better in winter, fewer trips outside to fill. We have so many birds here that it usually needs refilling every 3 days or so. Stupid house finches just sit there and mow through it. At least the titmice, woodpeckers and chickadees have the decency to fly away with the seed to eat it (or hide it). I find little stashes of sunflower seeds in the strangest places.
  4. Yeah I have no idea how the first guy determined we weren't low on refrigerant. This guy hooked his pressure gauge up and was like duh it's low and he sniffed out a leak in the coil. Luckily it's under warranty so I just have to pay labor. At work when we have an unplanned shutdown we lose $3M worth of refrigerant each time. Doh! Sorry mod, just wanted to close the loop, last mention of AC problems here.
  5. Not monarchs but my regalis have started pupating. They're monsters this year. Not sure why they grew so huge other than copious rain and very hot. One of my females is 18 grams. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk
  6. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0007LQ3RQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title I've had one of these for a couple years now and I can confirm it is 100% squirrel proof. They can't solve it despite hours of trying.
  7. Seems like cold front passed through. Was puking fatties for a bit and now the dewpoints have dropped down to Serengeti levels.
  8. Hmmmm.....one helluva cold front must be coming.
  9. Idk but the amount looks accurate for my house.

    Winter 2022-23

Of all the winters I remember, 22-23 should stack up to be the most recent.
  11. That radar image was way more bark than bite. I'm not sure we even had a breeze. Looks like about 1.25" so far which pretty much means no chance of drought for the rest of the growing season. I'll take it. New roof has held up with no leaks either.
  12. Yikes that radar looks like I'm about to get my ass kicked.
  13. Keep it together everybody, plenty of storms forming west and heading east.
  14. 90/76, feels like 102, ugh. Man it's hot. Drove my old Subaru to work today and apparently some mouse made a nest in the cabin air box because just turning the AC on smells like a mix of dead leaves and mouse piss. Sophie's choice ..no AC in the car or mouse pee smell permeating everything @KAOS, fyi turns out I have a condenser coil leak on my AC in the attic. Case solved, getting fixed just in time for the cool weather. Topped up refrigerant in the meantime and air temp dropped by 7deg instantly. Ok sorry back to weather...
  15. As long as you have antibiotics.....
  16. Hot and wet equals disease.
  17. Supposedly Bittinger is at 69F. So jealous I'm not there instead of here (still 92F).

    Winter 2022-23

It's more over than it's ever been over before.
  19. Sorry, 91F outside right now
  20. Guess I will call for a second opinion. We actually do have an attic fan (along with almost full length ridge vents), I had to replace the motor two weeks ago and I was sweating to death in the attic and lamenting the shitty AC upstairs, which is what prompted me to call the tech in the first place. I don't ever recall this issue so something mustve changed in the past year. Sad thing is half my job is refrigerant thermodynamics (on a city-sized scale) but I've never bothered to do the calculations for the AC unit. Onward...
  21. I literally replaced the filter this morning which is why I was measuring temps in the attic. No icing, I had someone out to look at it about two weeks ago because I had same concerns but they said it looked good. Maybe I need a second opinion. As an experiment I shut off the AC and am just running the fan circulating air. Intake air is 75F and it's putting out 81F after a few mins. Maybe my attic's just too hot.
  22. 75F indoors in my master bedroom right now. Perhaps the dynamics are different due to my downstairs unit which is putting out 58F air at the same time. It's waaaaaaasay more effective.
  23. Yeah if I ever move to a new house all the handlers are going to be in the building envelope. I'd probably only move into a single story home at this point so I guess it wouldn't matter anyway. I just checked the attic with a temp gun - decking 136F. Return duct to the air handler - 106F exterior. Cold air ducts to the rooms, all about 96F exterior. They're all insulated of course but there's no way around heat gain being in that environment. Air coming out of the vents is 68F, barely enough to cool the rooms even running nonstop.
