  1. I remember parts of 295 (up near me) where merge lanes weren't plowed all the way. I went to work one day between the storms and got to the end of the in ramp and had to come to a screeching stop. I was either going to drive straight into a snow bank or onto 295 traffic. Was really bad and am lucky I didn't cause an accident because of it. I called SHA as soon as I got to work to complain. It was plowed that day.

Working from home for a week FTW.

    ;)

  2.

There was a massive pile of snow where 295 meets the Inner Loop as you come to the Wilson Bridge that was still there well into April, if I recall correctly.  It's one of the few spots in that section where they could pile the snow up without interfering with traffic.  And I remember all the dirt, grit, and grime that was left behind from that pile - it was pretty nasty and it took a long time for it to get washed away that summer.

  3. That's where I get a little jealous. At no point did my yard have over 30", let alone 4'+.

I can't remember exactly, but I think I had 28" in the first storm, and right about 10" in the second, so I'm sure I had over 30" in certain places, but the wind from the second storm really scoured out a lot of spots and ended up piling that snow in drifts and the like.

  4. Research is the act of taking data and observations that others have previously recorded. Who is stealing from who?

Quite like standing on someone's shoulders, and proclaiming "I'm up here by my own effort"

I'm not sure you really know what research is.

  5. I do not.

So you mean you don't ascribe to the belief that a warm winter and spring means the following summer will be hotter than normal? Which means the following winter will be warmer than normal, which means the following spring will be warmer than normal, which means...

  6. I don't know if this thread makes me

1.) Happy to look back and remember the good times

    or

2.) Depressed to look back and then look at the crappy pattern we're in and realize we aren't going to be seeing anything like this (much less anything even 1/3 as good as this) anytime soon.

    I'm think I'll go with #2.

Definitely #2, but it's more than just knowing we're currently in a crappy pattern. It's knowing that our normal snowfall is somewhere around 20" (depending on where you live), and it's rare to even get that much in any given winter.

This is simply a s****y snow area.

  7. Yeah exactly, just the perfect storm in all regards. Delicately covered the trees/bushes w/ no wind at all making for the perfect postcard. Never understood the blizzard warning either, it was so still the snow fell perfectly straight.

I never understand why so many folk find snowmageddon preferable.

Because there was more snow...with more to follow.

  8. 5.8 is probably pushing some of the limits for building integrity. The newer ones are ok, but I would think anything larger than a 6.0 would be a real problem.

Wife and I went out for a walk with the dog earlier and saw quite a few chimneys that lost some bricks and/or mortar, and a few that will need a pretty good overhaul. I'd agree that it was pretty close to big enough to cause some real problems this close to the epicenter.
