Need Advice from a DC Local.. whats the deal with flying out of Reagan and long term parking?  If I have a 7:00 AM flight and need to park long term, like do I need to park and then take a shuttle?  Will shuttles be running at 4:00 AM?  My Hawaii Retirement Celebration starts tomorrow and because of the Boeing 737 Max 9 grounding I am now flying out of Reagan.

Yes. If you park in long-term parking, you need to take the shuttle to the terminal. Depending on the time of day and which stop you get picked up at, it can take anywhere up about 15 minutes to get to the terminal once you get on the shittle.

Pretty sure they run 24/7, or at least as often as they need to get people to the terminals on time.

I'm slowly coming to acceptance that I'm missing snow next week. I'm going through the stages of grief...first was to root for it to miss then it was to try to figure out how to skip the trip (I like paying my mortgage so this one is a no go) then it goes to rooting for a smallish event to finally saying f it good luck everyone and hope my my wife isn't too pissed because she has to shovel

This is the forecast I wanted to hear.

From a "real feel lol" perspective it most likely will. Should get good mixing/turbulence once the sun does its thing. Yesterday was a good reminder about southerly flow+saturated column. Winds near the surface have to fight to touch it. I've personally never witnessed a significant southerly wind event anywhere west of the bay. Every prediction underperforms.

Westerlies have it easy. They get tumbled and pushed to the surface. Maybe you can witness some beautiful devastation in your yard today. I'm rootin for ya brother :nerdsmiley::tomato:

    Early dismissal today?

Why do my kids have a 2hr delay??

Why are my kids schools closed?!

It's crazy...my kids went to school on time this morning. Not sure how they and all the others kids in Fairfax County made it happen after all the danger last night, but they did.

Be honest, was that your proudest moment as a dad yet?

Definitely in my Top 5. Maybe Top 3.

Kid was fuming and yelling at me...and she's the pretty level-headed and chill one. She slammed the door and stomped into the house while I was trying to tell her that I'll find the phone number for the school superintendent so she can make a complaint.

  6. Picked up the kids from the bus stop and my 5th grader was *raging* at her strings concert being cancelled this evening. So I guess some students think it's dumb to cancel activities for gusty rain.

Was pouring and windy for a bit, but it's slowed down over the past few minutes. Looks like it should be pretty interesting with in the next hour.

it was close to a storm day 10 but just missed out on lining all the parts up.  But it falls into the category of the GFS, doesn't phase the storm around the 17th so it rotates the TPV west and that is a suppressive look, it also could even open the door to another cutter if something were to phase.

I know that sounds counter intuitive, how can it both be a more suppressive look AND more likely to cut.  Because if you put the vortex over the upper midwest like that...any weak wave is going to get squashed.  So we need something to phase for that to work.  But if it does phase...with the trough anchored that far west...and without something in the 50/50 space to suppress the flow along the east Coast...the storm could cut north west of us.  We are again, left needing more moving parts to go perfectly.  And sometimes they do.  Sometimes you just get lucky!  But man I would feel way way way better if we could just get that TPV into the 50/50 space.

That's fair, but regarding the 50/50, it looks to me like we have that TPV elongation thing you mentioned above, and that might be enough to keep a storm from cutting. We'd be on a knife's edge, but it could be enough.

I'm with you in that we'd be FAR better off with something anchored at 50/50!

  8. Was peeking at the CMC at 240 (yes...an op at range) and am seeing what I think are some good things (but I'm just a dweeb, so grain of salt and all).

    1. Big ol' block over the Davis Strait
    2. Piece of energy is rotating around the PV and dives in around Montana
    3. Split flow with southern stream energy lurking around Texas
    4. PNA spikes well up into Canada on a decent axis due to low heights stretching south of the Aleutians
    5. Lower heights in the 50/50 region
    6. Plenty of cold around

You can definitely see some big potential there. Looking forward (with a little trepidation) to see where it goes from here...

My kid just texted that Fx Co schools canceling evening activities

My wife and I were just talking about that. 5th grader has a strings concert this evening and we figured it might be cancelled. It's a little bit of a bummer since that was rescheduled from before Christmas when like 50% of the kids were sick.

44 and still raining in Burke.

  10. I'm honestly shocked that Fairfax County hasn't made the call, given the other counties doing so. I guess they figure they didn't do it early enough, so they'll stick to their guns and not piss off the folks whose daily routines it would upset.

I'm pretty ambivalent about it, to be honest.

It’s closer at H5 to 6z vs 0z. Just doesn’t dig as much.

Yeah...the NS energy isn't as strung out as it was at 0z and prior, but it didn't drop in and phase like at 6z. Closer than it had been, so I take that as a decent run, all things considered.

Meanwhile the GGEM has a modest hit. Best solution it’s had yet I think.

Can't see "ground truth" for the Canadian past 162 on TT yet, but you can see that energy consolidate more and swing through a day later.

Edit: Just looked at Pivotal. Makes sense given what was going on at 500.

I work from home most of the time so the 2.5 hour early Moco dismissal is NBD... but feeling for those elementary parents who get notice of a dismissal at 120pm.  They just let us know about 30 minutes ago!

Same for us - I generally work from home four days a week and my wife is a freelance editor, so she's home, as well. It doesn't affect us in that regard, but I can definitely understand the headaches it can cause for families without any parents at home during the day.

Ob: 43 and raining in Burke. Temps have risen slowly, but steadily all morning.

    A co-worker - "Man, it's chilly out there"

Maybe it's chilly for Birmingham, AL. Maybe. This whole area is being de-conditioned to...actual winter.

It's all relative though. If it feels cold relative to what it's been, then they'll say it's cold. If it's actually been cold for a while and it gets to normal or slightly above, people will say it feels nice.

I assume it requires Peacock Premium. If so, then yeah...pure greed.

Pure greed pretty accurately describes all pro leagues. It’s gonna collapse at some point.

Agreed. But fans still pay and the league and athletes make millions upon millions upon millions. Until fans decide they won't/can't pay for it, it's going to continue.

Viewing on mobile is alright - but it's a lot easier when images load directly in the thread.

I figure it’s easy enough to go to a new tab (on my phone) and look for myself, rather than ask someone to do the work for me.

    Anyway…

  16. Congrats, Pennsylvania! Anyone up in New England want to regale us with stories of the pasting they got?

I’m sitting here with soggy ground after a day of cold, driving rain and I’d so love to hear about places outside of our sub fared. Hope they did wel since they really deserve it!
