  1. That’s just for internet.
  2. I pay $60/month for Fios internet, and was paying $150/month for DirecTV, plus yearly Prime and monthly Netflix. Now with Sling I’m only paying $60/month instead of the $150. That’s a pretty significant savings for very little in the way of changing our setup. We don’t watch all that much TV anyways, and we can stream pretty much anything our older daughter could want to watch. I just signed up for Premier League Gold last night, so I’ll have access to every game - both live and on demand - for $49.99/year. Not a bad deal when I’m already saving a ton.
  3. Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Luckily, I’m not a huge football fan. I’ve gone without watching the Eagles regularly for years now, so I’m not really missing anything. My big thing is soccer, and I can get NBCSN and NBC Premier League Gold through Sling/Fire TV, so I’m good there. I’ve been researching the possibility of purchasing a VPN service, but aside from the general internet security part of it, I’m not sure how much real benefit we’d get from it. I’m not techy, but can muddle my way through, so I could probably make it work for me, but if it makes my wife’s life any more difficult than it needs to be, then forget it!
  4. Just cut the cord by cancelling DirecTV, which we’ve had for the last five years. Before that we had Fios for about four years, and I had Verizon/Fios for years prior to that. Feels quite liberating...but we are losing years of DVRed shows that my daughter started watching four years ago, though so many of those shows are now available via streaming. We’re going with a combination of Prime Video, Netflix, and Sling through FireTV. Really interested to see how it all works out...and definitey excited to be saving $90/month! Anyone else cut the cord and happy with it?
  5. I walked out into the teeth of it from Penn Quarter to L’Enfant with a large umbrella fully engaged. The top of my head alone is dry.
  6. She’s a beast when she puts her mind to it. She started off trimming them, then as she stared to see how they were obviously dying, she decided to lip them off pretty far down...then the shovel came out. Two days later...plenty of room in front of our bay window!
  7. Wife ripped out four azalea bushes this weekend. I watched from the comfort of my air conditioned home.
  8. True. Which is why pretty much no one ever does.
  9. Beautiful garden, psu. I’m definitely jealous that you have so much sun-drenched land to lay out a really useful space. I’ll be laying out my space much differently than it is now, and I’ll likely be putting up a cage structure to help keep the pests out. This year has been worse than ever with squirrels and chipmunks doing a number on plenty of my plants. I’ve got a ton of trees around, which will make it a little difficult to clean up in the fall, but I’ll make it work.
  10. If we get a helpful Nino, I expect a few shots in early- to mid-December, then a thaw from around Christmas to the third week of January or so. We then reload and make a run at a nice season as we go through February. Then we go mild as we head towards March. Forecasting is easy.
  11. Sad to see the World Cup come to and end today, but’s it’s been a hell of a tournament. With the US missing out, it’s been all stress-free watching, which has been a nice change, if I’m honest! Good thing is that the Premier League starts up in less than a month!
  12. They seem to have a lot of records, but we’ve broken virtually every record. They need much more room. We don’t need it. Really, we do it without, like, musical instruments.
  13. Kind of pissed that we didn’t get any rain at all given the short-range forecasts. Gonna be a bit crispy come late next week.
  14. Hot, but not horrible today. Pool this evening was perfect. Water was ideal, and it even felt chilly when you got out and sat in the shade.
  15. I feel sorry for the family who owns that house. Hopefully they weren’t in it at the time.
  16. Wow...some serious thunder in Burke right now. Plenty of close strikes, and some pretty heavy rain.
  17. Bottom of that line seems to be consolidating around MBY in east-central Fairfax County.
  18. That spot loves to flood. Usually clears out pretty quickly.
  19. I’m dubious, that’s all. Mrs. J said she saw quarter-sized hail. I certainly believe her.
  20. Pretty legit storm in Burke. More impressive than last night, for sure. Hope everyone in Frederick gets through this OK.
  21. Almost none, which is why I laugh every year at the title of this thread.
