Late August heat and humidity always feels worse to me somehow. I know we had hotter days earlier this summer, but, man, just took a walk four blocks to my bank downtown and it was absolutely brutal in Baltimore City.
Yeah...I’m not someone who complains often about heat, but it was bad today. From early morning when we took my oldest daughter to the bus stop for her first day of kindergarten to walking to my car at about 3:00 pm, it was muggy and hot. Looking forward to the upcoming rain.

We've never had such widespread warmth over the NW Atlantic. Could prove to be a unique winter albeit a very warm one with bouts of wet snow. The kind of wet snow that caves in roofs and such. Fun.
Because snow caves in roofs so often around here.

Brother, you'd love Asheville, NC. Spent a few days there this week and really enjoyed ourselves. We did some great hiking and went to about ten breweries (walked to most!) but didn't nearly get to all of them. Just a beautiful area. These two pictures were taken from the Deep Gap Trail on a hike from Mt. Mitchell to Mt. Craig.
Heard lots of good things about Asheville. My grandfather played baseball there after he spent his prime years in the navy during and after WW2, and he and my grandmother really liked it even back then.

Scorched? Seriously, NPZ?

great sport, but they need to cut out the injury embellishments. it's obnoxious. otherwise, i like watching some soccer.
I agree with you on the faking aspect. I can’t stand it. I understand that players need to be protected to a certain degree, but it’s a contact sport, and those “skill players” need to be able to take it. I’m a Tottenham Hotspur fan, and I’m proud that Harry Kane is our talisman. He’s a player that puts himself on the line and is willing to take the punishment doled out by defenders. He takes it, gets up, brushes off, and proceeds to consistently put the ball in the back of the net. Fantastic to watch.
I think we may get there in the future with the advent of VAR. And if FIFA ever gets its act together to push the federations/leagues to start using retroactive bans for diving/embellishment, then I really think we’ll be on track.

This isn’t really lawn, I suppose, but , anyone else having issues with little ants sprouting everywhere this year? Miss one crumb and ants almost out of nowhere .
Yup. We’ve got a lot of ants inside - really started noticing them a couple weeks ago. Pest control sprayed outside last week, but it’s had no effect, so we’re going to have them back out to see if they can do some careful baiting.

And no chance of rain for a very long time coming up.
Or maybe Friday, NPZ.

this occurs all over football. it's a sport where you either hit or get hit. there's a lot of different motivational techniques used. this sounds over the top for sure, but don't be surprised if more stories start coming out.
This is one reason I never played football and prefer not to support it. I played/participated in pretty much every other sport available to me instead.
It’s a bunch of meatheaded freaks getting their rage on, and it’s pretty sad, to be honest.

Can be a few things, but bacterial wilt and squash bugs or cucumber beetles are the first things to come to mind.

NFL season officially kicks off tonight. From now through early Feb we will have NFL games to watch.
Winter is coming..
Meh.
Oversized dudes playing three seconds at a time and running at each other with their heads first, then dying young because of the stress they put their bodies through from the time they were kids.
Eagles though. At least I can lord that over people.

Read through that article and roll forward the analogs - both for the cold summertime lows and warm May-July period. Ugh. Nothing in there inspires confidence here.
OK. See you in the spring.

We are already into August in a few days. And six weeks or so we will actually be speaking about upcoming patterns and long long-range threats. We are in the final stretch of Summer.
Yeah...but the GFS always shows a coastal bomb at hour 2304.

That is nasty work. I remember going after our holly bushes the year after we moved in. When we had the rest of them removed 7 years later it was by a crew with a front end loader. That was more efficient.
She’s a beast when she puts her mind to it. She started off trimming them, then as she stared to see how they were obviously dying, she decided to lip them off pretty far down...then the shovel came out. Two days later...plenty of room in front of our bay window!

Wife ripped out four azalea bushes this weekend. I watched from the comfort of my air conditioned home.
