  1. And the tornado and macroburst in September 2010! I lost tons of large, mature trees in the 60 to 80 year old range in my neighborhood because of that stupid tornado. It did an incredible amount of damage to the canopy
  2. I remember being in the pool, blue skies and sunny overhead and a towering black cloud just to my east, with some crazy loud thunder even reaching me from that storm. There was a really good video from Nassau that showed huge hailstones but I can't find it. This one is from Queens that day. Look at the hailstone that falls around 28 seconds. That's a solid baseball:
  3. Do you remember the hailstorms in summer 2011? In Western Nassau/eastern Queens they got rocked by baseball sized hail. I got quarter sized hail by my house by another cell that occurred a couple hours after the baseball sized hailstorm.
  4. Yes of course. The majority of us don't want to live in a replica of a Chinese industrial dump city. Unfortunately the people most into the environment today are also anti nuclear and more focused on "environmental justice" instead of just keeping the air and water clean.
  5. Is all that stuff on radar that looks a lot more dramatic than it really is producing anything anywhere?
  6. Not happening here, not because of anthropogenic induced warming. That won't happen for another 700+ million years and it will be the Sun that does that, not people.
  7. My comment was more to make fun of those who think any warming is because of UHI, or airports, or the Sun, or volcanoes, or fissures at the bottom of the sea, or gremlins, or pretty much anything else other than greenhouse gases. Your first 110 degree day is coming. Get the panels spruced up and ready.
  8. It must be the giant UHI and massive airport that has sprung up around International Falls. I believe the International Falls metro area is only slighty smaller than NYC's.
  9. Are you still on Long Island? I probably missed it if you mentioned it.
  10. The increased water vapor has really jacked up our average dewpoint which is like a natural cap to very high temps. One of these years we are going to get strong, dry westerly winds in a heatwave and we are going to set very high temperature records.
  11. And Newark might be hotter than anyone else but does that mean it's inaccurate? We know Central Park is inaccurate, unless you think Manhattan has a climate closer to JFK's all of a sudden hahahahaha The area around Newark is either water/marshes or suburbia. It's not likle a massive city sprung up around the airport over the last 30 years. And daytime temps aren't affected by UHI anyway really. That area of NJ is the hottest part of the area, whether it was rural or urban.
  12. if it was -3 people would act like an ice age had come. If it's +3 people don't even react anymore. So just for that reason we should clear all the greenery around the station so people stop acting like it's not warming up lol
  13. Bust on high temps today? I thought we were supposed to be around 75 as of last night's forecast? On another note, it seems Central Park is going to be totally irrelevant for the foreseeable future.
  14. Beautiful
  15. You'd also have to wait for a five year environmental impact study on how the dome impacts the breeding habits of the tiger mosquito in the nearby estuary.
  16. If the NWS really wanted, can't they just trim back everything that is growing directly over the enclosure? It's better than nothing.
  17. LGA is interesting. A few years ago I read that the max UHI effects are in Western Queens/Brooklyn and Manhattan. Since LGA is just west enough to be in that zone I guess it's gotten worse over the years? Their lows have gone through the roof as well.
  18. Wouldn't being under a tree canopy mimic cloudy conditions/effects on the ASOS? There is a reason temps are in line with other stations until full leaf out occurs.
  19. Huge actually since Newark wasn't moved from a forest to an airport.
  20. I see Central Park is in summer mode lol
  21. 10/10 today wow wow
  22. Who cares about wind. NYC was getting 20% of its power from a clean source immune to global price shocks that provided baseload power 24/7. But no! We had to shut that down! My bills are pushing DOUBLE what I paid 5 years ago. And I got much more efficient heat pumps installed mind you! Don't get me started.
  23. Maybe the SE PA/SNJ stuff might swing through here. If it holds.
  24. NYC will get clipped by this heavy batch. Not sure how much it will end up totaling, but it's better than nothing.
  25. Didn't you used to live in Douglaston? Or am I mixing you up with someone else?
