The level of posting has consistently declined over the years here. Back in the old days, and the old forum, it seemed like we had scores of Mets posting and highly-capable amateur enthusiasts who provided substantive assessment.
Unfortunately, now, as in society, we only hear from radicals at both ends of the spectrum — gloomists or weenies.

I cannot stress this enough, if you are rooting for a cold, dreary March, you should seek help. Spring should not be wasted on those suffering from snow withdrawals.

That analogy certainly makes sense and I do not get paid to forecast the weather.
However, looking beyond the 7-10 range looks like there is plenty of arctic air in Canada, northern tier, and this side of the hemisphere.
Guess I am a little puzzled what he is looking at to completely call off winter?
Sir, beyond 10 days is spring

Who's gonna crank up the spring thread?
I usually do a spring countdown thread. Will work on it. 24 days.

GFS shows one last gasp around the 20th, then rolling forward looks like west coast trough, big east coast ridge. I think that’ll do it.

I’m officially launching my annual spring countdown today. You can tell the sun is getting stronger. The daffodils are blooming. It’s time. 25 days.

Daffodils blooming all around our neighborhood in Raleigh
-
The cold honestly looks rather transient or at least interspersed with some above normal days.
And frankly, if it’s not going to snow, I’d prefer we just get on with spring.

Let's see if we can enjoy a week of below average
Yep. And again, let’s remind folks that by the last week of Feb, the average high for Raleigh is about 60 damn degrees
-
I’ll go ahead and do it: sun angle.
There. Cross it off the list. And yes, it’s very real if we’re borderline on temps.

18z GFS kind of interesting for coastal NC / ILM for next week

I’m okay with a torch before we get blocking later in February. Euro weeklies showing game on after mid month. We just need an inch or 2 to claim victory and I think we will get it. It’s tough right now but we still have time to pull something off.
.Late Feb is not what I want to be banking on. That’s spring in these parts lately.

This run actually looks much better at 500… I’d say positive trend

Wouldn’t sweat the euro. A 985 mb low just off of Myrtle beach that’s essentially completely devoid of moisture isn’t an output I’d take literally.
Positive tilt

Should be good enough for a colder rain! 2 degree lower anomaly when you’re pushing 60 for an average high ain’t doing much.

March is met spring. We can’t even snow in deep winter here and we think we’ve got what it takes to snow outside of winter???

I will agree with another poster the other day that this pattern is not helping many of us in NC and SC. All we can do is wait a few weeks and hope February and maybe the first week of March will save us. We still have plenty of time so I have faith that February will deliver the goods. So let’s hope for a repeat of February 2004 if you know you know
.I have had blooming trees the first week of March the past two years. Worst part about any snow by then is it’s usually white rain followed by 72 degrees in a few days.
