  1. Looks like some possible super cells over lake Erie out ahead of the main line of storms?
  2. I believe the water quality starts to suffer the warmer the lake waters get...on the other hand when we cool down towards Sept there will be thunderstorms developing at night due to the cooler air...the very first signs if lake effect...
  3. Crazy. It might tickle 80 this year. Is the all time high 81?
  4. Damn I just said the same thing to my old man.. It looks like a tropical system...the rain over southern Ontario has to be causing serious flooding. I'm a touch concerned...
  5. I was really shocked this morning to see A) how well defined the storm is and 2) that NYC is under a tropical storm warning.
  6. Just watched a piece on channel 4 about beer and brain health in the elderly. According to the study, by the American Journal of medicine no less, states that a woman who consumes 8 glasses of beer or wine in 1 week shows a less likely chance of having dementia vs a woman who does not consume that amount. For men the amount of beer was doubled for the same results. However it was just last year the same journal reported ANY amounts if alcohol was bad for overall health!!! It's these inconsistencies and contradictions that make me question science and related research.
  7. While I agree with a longer shutdown will contribute to an economic disaster, I also feel if we can at least be as careful as possible while opening up slowly then we can be more towards the 6 month timeframe. What concerns me is the uneven rules for different states at a macro level and the same uneven rules in the micro as well. Example, my son plays soccer at a high level and they were just added to the July 6th reopening for youth sports, however they can only participate in cardio type workouts and cannot engage in physical for at least 2 weeks after...yet on father's day I saw 2 different posts from 2 different families on Facebook regarding a softball tournament their daughters were taking part in Bradford PA. How did that even happen when they aren't even allowed to begin getting together until just shy if 2 weeks from now, let alone travel to another state?
  8. Not sure how that is. Every public place right now in NY requires a mask or no entry. Just the probability alone of being at places in the south at this time where they do not have such orders makes that a false statement. I know you're dying for travel and going to the gym but for a short time (and yes 6 to 12 months is short) to give those things up for the greater good really should not be debatable.
  9. I have stated this since the beginning. We are a selfish country worried about ourselves and no one else...whats best for me...i have also cancelled 2 trips this year and honestly I could care less. I will have other chances with my wife and with the kids as well next year or the year after. I just don't understand the allure from having to get away so bad right now.
  10. Literally went all around my house. Poured to the NE, South, NW, you get the pic...received about a 30 second shower and that was it. Maybe this afternoon/evening will offer more widespread hope
  11. Agreed!!! Love this discussion we have here at Americanwx but those days were pretty special.
  12. For all my buffalo peeps...the Don is back where it all began! He will be appearing on Monday and Tuesday in the 4 pm hour for the foreseeable future.
  13. Is it above the garage? Or near a wall or area that's less insulated? My son's room is on the second floor but his closet wall is the joint to the upper garage and us hotter in the summer and much colder in the winter...youre not having the second issue but it could be a possibility.
  14. I've always thought the one thermostat zone in a house with forced air was a horrible idea. Hot air rises. The full sun beating on your roof all day also adds to the heat upstairs. Having my nest thermostat in my dining room is useless as its the room that is in the shaded, back of the house, so as long as it's 68 there it doesn't matter it's 95 upstairs and wildly uncomfortable. Imo new houses should have multilevel smart zones for heating and cooling because a house doesn't heat and cool the same everywhere.
  15. Wow! One of the few! How careful were you during this time?
  16. I made mention earlier in this thread that the pattern were in now looks to last a few weeks. Up, down nothing sustained. Maybe July will be more uniform one way or the other?
  17. I think that law will be passed and made legislation in all 50 states within 3 years.
  18. Real roller coaster pattern. I'm not sure we see a long stretch of heat this year. The oatretn is conducive to spikes of heat and longer periods of cooler weather. This may change as we get into July but for the next few weeks thus looks predominate
  19. I mentioned this exact fact a week or so ago when we hit 93...the extreme weather of winter was a month before the winter solstice and the extreme heat was a month before the summer solstice...coincidence?
  20. How 20 hours can change...already 60's again by the weekend after a moderate warm-up...
  21. You know I've been kinda joking about this, but, wouldn't it be apropos if our hottest weather this year took place in May much like our snowiest part of the year was November? Food for thought...
