  1. Looks like some possible super cells over lake Erie out ahead of the main line of storms?
  2. I believe the water quality starts to suffer the warmer the lake waters get...on the other hand when we cool down towards Sept there will be thunderstorms developing at night due to the cooler air...the very first signs if lake effect...
  3. Crazy. It might tickle 80 this year. Is the all time high 81?
  4. At this point i don't think anyone would mind a few days below normal. Today feels absolutely perfect outside. I will be getting plenty of works done around the house after work today in effort to minimize what I'll need to do this weekend when the heat moves in again
  5. Damn I just said the same thing to my old man.. It looks like a tropical system...the rain over southern Ontario has to be causing serious flooding. I'm a touch concerned...
  6. So in the current one link BW post a few posts ago has the airport 1 degree warmer at 1354 (1:54) during the same timeframe...99 today? We were at 96 at one point but have slipped to an ever refreshing 95...where are my sweatpants...
  7. Honestly this wasn't well forecasted. We knew it would get hot this time last week but temps approaching 100 were never in the discussion...period. This once in 25 to 50 year type heat and record breaking in longevity as well. I don't believe that was mentioned as a possibility either. I guess it's like that lake effect band that just magically stays put for hours only to be forecast several time to shift...
  8. I was really shocked this morning to see A) how well defined the storm is and 2) that NYC is under a tropical storm warning.
  9. Are you mildly surprised we didn't meet excessive heat warning criteria yesterday?
  10. So we're averaging 90 so far? That's incredible.
  11. I agree with you. California is famous for rolling brownouts and blackouts, the kind we don't see around here for sure luckily. As for the failure, some of that belongs on the power company in this instance. They repaired it the first day, or so they thought, only to realize when the same 4000 customers lost power the next day their repairs weren't effective. Nothing like replacing older equipment with newer ineffective equipment!

  13. Local Todd on 4 had 92 for next Wed...he stated on air he is adjusting that up almost a week out to the mid 90's...there may be some true potential for that first 100 at KBUF
  14. Well there were 4000 in amherst-north buffalo out of power due to over use the last 2 days. Won't be widespread but there will be pockets.
  15. Gonna be alot of power outages the next 2 weeks
  16. I believe it would be as we had one in May, 2 last month and the current streak (tomorrow pending) would make 8 so, carry the one, yep 11!!!
  17. If we hit 95 or 96 Thurs or Fri I think those advisories go to excessive heat warnings those 2 days for the Niagara frontier and Genesee Valley.
  18. This takes me back to the age old heat vs cold discussion. This type of heat is much deadlier on a wide scale than widespread cold is and in my opinion (and scientifically) it's not close. When you have a heat wave of this magnitude, covering 2/3rds of the continental US and for the duration it spells disaster. Couple that with people that need to quarantine, or like many elderly are holed up, the severe heat will take a great toll on those living in the urban areas in older high rise buildings, many without aur conditioning. I find myself to be fascinated by weather extremes, but searing heat is not one of those I cheer for.
  19. Just watched a piece on channel 4 about beer and brain health in the elderly. According to the study, by the American Journal of medicine no less, states that a woman who consumes 8 glasses of beer or wine in 1 week shows a less likely chance of having dementia vs a woman who does not consume that amount. For men the amount of beer was doubled for the same results. However it was just last year the same journal reported ANY amounts if alcohol was bad for overall health!!! It's these inconsistencies and contradictions that make me question science and related research.
  20. While I agree with a longer shutdown will contribute to an economic disaster, I also feel if we can at least be as careful as possible while opening up slowly then we can be more towards the 6 month timeframe. What concerns me is the uneven rules for different states at a macro level and the same uneven rules in the micro as well. Example, my son plays soccer at a high level and they were just added to the July 6th reopening for youth sports, however they can only participate in cardio type workouts and cannot engage in physical for at least 2 weeks after...yet on father's day I saw 2 different posts from 2 different families on Facebook regarding a softball tournament their daughters were taking part in Bradford PA. How did that even happen when they aren't even allowed to begin getting together until just shy if 2 weeks from now, let alone travel to another state?
