Upstate NY Banter and General Discussion..

The ominous signs that are in front of us are real and we could very well be entering an era of no turning back. If this continues, with the bullshit political sparring only ramping up, we will be damaging, potentially forever, the world we once new only 2 months ago. The possibilities exist that we will never get back to any thing that resembles normal in any walk of life. I'm not scared of what that holds but it be lying if I didn't say I wasn't nervous how many Americans will never be whole after this, whenever that is. -

Funny you should mention that! My wife works at a nursing home in Tonawanda and she received $1150 in a bonus that will be given once a month for the foreseeable future. This must be a part of the stimulus package because trust me when I say this it didn't come from the ownership group. -

In lighter yet still relevant news, the local gas stations must've switched to the "summer blend" as prices spiked (at the Seneca reservation at least) some 25 to 30 cents this morning. Welcome to travel season...errr too soon? -

Spit balling? Middle of 2021. Only when a vaccine is approved and countries all have the vaccine will that happen. Until then I think many if not all countries will be very protective of foreigners. -

Buffalo/suburbs; Rochester/suburbs: Syracuse might be on the fence, same with Albany; rest of down state also extended. These are just my opinion not fact -

It incensed me when my wife let me know this was the plan from Albany. In my opinion the State DOH is either corrupt, inept or both. My wife works at a sub par facility, which was never a great facility, it was well run and had good staff. That gas changed since the ownership group who purchased some 5 years ago that resides in NYC has destroyed whatever was good there with horrible decisions on management, workers and what type of patient they want. On many occasions my wife has bern certain her facility would be slapped with at minimum hefty fines or more serious punishments for many various violations yet the DOH looks the other way. They need to be investigated. -

My wife just text me the state DOH just rolled up with 4 surveyors to investigate the findings of their facility to see if protocol was followed...they will not be surprised with their answers... -

Wells, in this scenario at least, has it right. They have a plan to actually help their customers. -

What's worse is most banks are allowing the deferred payments to be added to the back end of the loan...just for giggles I called in to my mortgage company, which will remain nameless to protect the moronic, to see what it's policy was...theyre allowing a 6 month deferment, the catch is it's all due the moment the 6 months is up...in my scenario if needed ( were good) would be $12,156 paid back immediately...i laughed so hard I had to hang up... -

That is correct. My sister in-law is in radiology at O'shei children's, they're giving it the old "volunteer" or we'll decide mantra. Even though she has been there (from Hodge to now) 12 years she's low rung on the ladder so if no one volunteers she's as good as furloughed. -

That's exactly what I explained to my wife yesterday when she was quizzical about how the hospitals were losing money and I said simply many of the surgeries, cosmetic, open heart, not essential, etc weren't being performed which is terrible for the bottom line. Add in copious amounts of overtime at crazy hourly rates (think up to $90+ an hour) and some hospitals will be forced into some very difficult decisions in the near term. -

So while the Seneca gas stations are properly pricing (shoot it might be .50 cents a gallon by the weekend) the local stations are still above $2.20 a gallon. I understand the amount of consumption is down nearly 75% however you can't tell me with a straight face that cheaper gas hasn't been delivered at least once during the last month. This needs to be looked at for gouging. -

I spoke to my neighbor across the street yesterday who I close friends with a few of the people named in the Tim Graham article. He states the piece is 100% accurate and that the pegulas put money into entities and side business that are failing or bleeding money. What's worse is they're not putting the blame in themselves for over spending. It seems they are being petulant in their reasoning and insulating themselves by hiring close family only -

It is complex. Treasury bonds being purchased by the public, borrowing from other countries (I believe believewe actually owe China some 1+ trillion making them our largest debt load) the bonds are eventually bought back by the US and we get our cut, or those that purchased bonds to fund the loans. -

I will check the source. It was stated somewhere that up to 50% of the population could be unaffected by the virus due to their DNA makeup. -

Up to 50% of the population is not able to be affected by Covid. It would be beneficial to have the new testing out that can tell if you were positive in the past or if you cannot be affected. This would help an enormous amount of our country to getting back to normal -

Being an "at will" state makes me cringe. Like yourself I've been in some sort of banking/finance for the past 12 years and I too have witnessed the here today gone tomorrow routine. I think unfortunately this opens the doors of favoritism to certain employees and unfair practices to others. Why we haven't gone the way of an actual reason to be let go is archaic. -

My wife has a good friend whose husband works for CSX. He has moved from buffalo, to Syracuse to now in South Carolina. He makes approximately 130k a year as an engineer for rail freight hauling. You can bet the amount of money the the rail lines can save from paying workers those wages AND the pension they receive will force the issue soones than later imo. -

What strikes me about the article above is it does mention family size was much larger 30 to 40 years ago when having 3 or 4+ kids was not uncommon. Today 1 or 2 is the norm and people think my wife and I are out of our minds because we have 3. That cost of living off sets the wages we earn as to the amount we spend. What is also interesting about the article is the very last paragraph. It states as a whole we are afraid of robots taking jobs. I think that's a real concern outside of a few industries. Automated telemarketers, electronic ordering at restaurants, bank-less tellers...and with this new pandemic I only see this increasing much more in the next 20 years. What used to be industrial is now electronic and were never going back.
