  1. Didn't realize that was a Miller B. We got around 10" in Fairfax, but I remember that Baltimore got dumped on.
  2. Is there any blocking to keep us cold? Or are we just dependent on a strong coastal low to keep it cold?
  3. I love reading these play-by-plays, but I generally have no earthly idea what they mean. Except "wide right" is very bad. LOL
  4. I was just thinking this the other day. Clippers typically are moisture starved once they cross the mountains, but can give a simple way to eek out a few inches or more. No mixing or temperature issues involved.
  5. No last year was way better Only for fat north and west. I’m probably less than 30 miles from you and had an awful winter. Better than 2020, but that was the worst winter EVER.
  6. I remember that we had a brief -NAO in 2016 just in time for our Blizzard. My Facebook memories came up today when I was looking forward to the storm coming. I said that we were getting about 30” of snow, which is exactly what I ended up measuring at my house. Apparently the models were on target back then.
  7. All of our big winter storms (2010, 2016, etc)are Miller A, correct?
  8. I was just thinking the same thing about our luck coming to an end after 3 storms. Hopefully it’s not a trend going forward…
  9. Mike Masco says the AO/NAO is looking to go negative in February. Is there support for that?
  10. Thanks. I appreciate your valuable insight. I’ve been tracking snow for as long as I can remember, but this forum has been invaluable in trying to understand how it all works.
  11. I’m learning from you all that the GFS doesn’t accurately do well with the SS in the long to mid range. Is that why the GFS didn’t pick up on the Jan 3rd storm until about 48 hours out? Do any of the other models figure this out any better?
  12. Any virtual snow day will be a 2 hour delay (except elementary start at 10:30). That’s so everyone can get their technology ready to go. Then there was already a 2 hour early release for the end of the semester.
  13. FCPS already told parents and staff that they are monitoring the weather forecast and to be prepared for a possible virtual day.
  14. On January 8th, the GFS was showing us having close to 3 feet by January 23rd.
  15. Psu got 50 inches. It was pretty active. We had snow but alot of mixed events although the 3 day snow event was cool. Im talking primarily for the nw areas Yeah. Last year was awful for most of us- several days of drawn out rain/snow/muck.
  16. If they close, it will be virtual. No more snow days. Ugh
  17. Exactly. I absolutely remember this from that time period. The Euro did this pretty regularly.
