  1. Some Japanese maples...they almost look like some kind of impressionist painting!
  2. You too, mappy! Hope all is well. My daughter was literally 364 days old for her first Halloween (her birthday is Nov. 1!), but we scored some good candy for adults in the neighborhood all the same. The "awww, look at the baby, have some candy for yourselves!" ploy! Of course, now she turns 19 tomorrow so any mention of "trick or treat", even in jest, gets an eye-roll and a "Really, dad? I'm not 5 anymore!" (she's currently at U MD).
  3. So this is what the former staff of the old Panic Room is doing to make ends meet! Pretty cool! Glad @WxWatcher007 and his staff are keeping some tradition going. Halloween is like the Panic Room version of Mardi Gras! As far as Starbucks is concerned, my guess is that the coffee just goes right through them!
  4. Well, disappointed that the Guardians lost last night. Oh well. But to be honest, I never expected them to even force a decisive game 5 vs. the Yankees, and damn near nobody even thought they'd win their division (let alone be in the post-season) with the youngest lineup in baseball! So, maybe hope for next season then. I'm proud of them all the same! Thanks, Guards, for an amazing run!!!!
  5. Haha, maybe so, that's true! There's nothing like knowing we're getting pummeled when @Bob Chill pulls out the large "shock" emoji after a model run! But you gotta admit, that Bryce Harper face is amusing!!
  6. I nominate Bryce Harper's reaction to Schwarber's home run last night as our new "shock" emoji () when a model hammers us with snow!!
  7. Whoo-hooo Guardians with a 1-0 win vs. Tampa!!! Advancing to the next round of the playoffs. Of course, that will be against the Yankees, but whatever, they got farther than anyone (including myself) would have thought. Tense 15 inning game ending with a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 15th inning by Oscar Gonzales! Longest scoreless post-season game in history, too.
  8. Now that's funny!!! Maybe that's the same guy who always chimes in with "how much for Short Pump?" each winter. Hmmm, pumping gas in Short Pump. I'll leave that one alone and let @ravensrule chime in! (Yeah, shouldn't have thrown him a bat signal there!).
  9. A brilliant cardinal and the moon...
  10. Nope. Only flakes around are in this sub-forum!!
  11. Haha, that's great! Kudos on the Princess Bride reference! "The GFS was correct in its depiction of precip building back into our area?? INCONCEIVABLE!!" "I spent the last few years building up an immunity to precip as shown on the GFS!"
  12. To be fair, I don't actually mind carrot cake! (Sorry @mappy, @H2O!!) But...chocolate cake, cannot top that! Key lime pie? Mmmmmm! No comment needed on the Vienna wieners in jello (shudder thinking about that!). OK, with all these pie and cake wars going on, where's @Mrs.J to weigh in with some input?!
  13. So... Carrot Cake > Chocolate Cake and... Jello Weenie-Os > Carrot Cake Therefore this implies the unthinkable!: Jello Weenie-Os > Chocolate Cake? Oh my, I don't even...
  14. I WOULD NOT, COULD NOT IN A TREE. NOT IN A CAR! YOU LET ME BE. I DO NOT LIKE THEM IN A BOX. I DO NOT LIKE THEM WITH A FOX. I DO NOT LIKE THEM IN A HOUSE. I DO NOT LIKE THEM WITH A MOUSE. I DO NOT LIKE THEM HERE OR THERE. I DO NOT LIKE THEM ANYWHERE. I DO NOT LIKE CARROTS IN A CAKE. I DO NOT LIKE THEM, YOU FECKLESS RAKE!
  15. Where's your Vienna sausage wieners in jello picture???
  16. So...apparently carrot cake is a big NO! for a lot of people here. Next food controversy: anchovies on a pizza??
  17. Well, I will say we probably all could use a good rain about now. Not that I care for a washout weekend, but hey, we've had some nice days of late. So no complaints from me (as long as it's not some outrageous flooding rain or the like!).
  18. Guidance is edging that landfall farther and farther south.
  19. Very cheesy map there... And we might need a carrot cake reaction emoji!
  20. Yay, Guardians!!! Won the AL Central today! Of course, I don't expect them to really go very far in the post-season, but still. They have a young team and weren't really expected to be there this season. But they are talented. At any rate, whatever happens, maybe a good lead in to next season at least.
  21. Sad thing is, for awhile (as I recall, could be wrong) that winter 2001-02 actually for a short while looked like it could be decent. But I think as we went through January, it was clear it was a no-go. I also recall some of the longer range models gave some false hope but then backed way off on that. And of course JB pounded that even as it was clear that wasn't going to happen. I'll admit the thing that ticked me off most was the whole "such-and-such month was the coldest...relative to averages!!" That makes no sense, comparing January to March (which I swear he did, or something similar) or some such thing. Hell, by that reasoning you could call a slightly cooler than normal July as being COLDER than JANUARY (relative to averages, in small print!!!)...OMG!!!! I'm exaggerating a bit, but you get the idea.
  22. Oh man, I remember that! First year I was in this area (DC metro). That's where I first heard the "vodka cold" BS!! He kept on keeping on with that ("it's just around the corner in 2 weeks!!), and it never came about even in the face of evidence. I think that's when I first noticed his statistical manipulation to "sound better" (diplomatic phrase for...bulls**t!), as in "March was the coldest month of the winter!!! (small print: relative to averages!)." Yeah let's compare apples and leprechauns!
