  1. I think applying a gag would be more effective...
  2. Looks like a burger that's been sitting out for a few weeks. Science experiment! ETA: Or a St. Patrick's Day meal that went wrong!
  3. Yeesh! Where in GA? When I lived in Atlanta (going to GA Tech), I don't really recall anything with fire ants up in that part of the state. But I can imagine the southern part and near the coastal area around Savannah might be infiltrated with those damned things.
  4. Oh, that's awful!! Really bad allergic reaction. I'm glad you told her emphatically to head right to the ER, and that she was driving by a hospital. Glad she ended up OK!
  5. She is! Scientist at heart! As was my dad. Geekiness runs in the family, as does bad humor! LOL!!
  6. Ugh...fire ants! Nasty little f**ers!! Experienced those in Florida when I was in grad school for my Master's (FSU). I have a vivid memory one time of being in the outfield during some softball game practice, running in to catch a fly ball and inadvertently kicking one of those fire ant hill nests. In one motion right after I caught the ball and kicked that damned hill...I reached down and flung my shoe off. Thank goodness I didn't get bitten all over the place!
  7. Looking at the range of weenie-d out emotion reminds me of a tale my step-mom told me years ago about the "ephemerons". Very scientific beings that lived on the top of the mercury column of a thermometer. Their lives were on the order of a microsecond. After thousands or more generations, they figured out the extent of their world: where the top and bottom of the thermometer glass was. After a couple million more, they realized they were accelerating upward, and panic ensued as they thought their world would be crushed on the top of the glass in some number of generations down the line! Then, after awhile, they realized things were stabilized and the panic stopped. After a million more generations their measurements indicated they were going down, fairly rapidly. Upon more and more measurements, they were growing very worried that they would crater at the bottom of their universe! And so it goes...
  8. It's the mid-level temperatures, 700-mb in particular, that the NAM has consistently shown as warmer.
  9. @stormtracker, @mappy...maybe use this whenever we go into "storm mode" for this event if anyone gets way out of line!!
  10. Sorry, feeling in a "meme" mood this evening and this just seemed perfect...
  11. When it comes to snow, we're all a little like Veruca Salt!
  12. For some reason that song from Mary Poppins went through my mind... Feed the trolls, Tuppence a bag. Tuppence, tuppence, Tuppence a bag!
  13. Dude, I'm from Cleveland and have survived The Drive and The Fumble, The Shot, etc. LOL!!! Not to mention 2 extra inning Game 7 World Series losses (don't even mention 2016 or 1997 to me, please!). So I know what you mean hahahaha! At least you got a SB victory against the evil empire...I mean, New England Patriots! But I still savor the Cavs win in 2016... Anyhow, on topic. Yes, we all sure are rooting for the 6"+, don't get me wrong. I'm not expecting it, but I like seeing that. Mostly, I like seeing the colder and less rainy solutions. And given how measured your comments usually are, I could definitely tell you were being mostly snarky in your comment! Oh, and what do nuns have to do with this?
  14. Maybe we just put a little extra in that night deposit bag just in case!
  15. Yeah, maybe not even 2 days ago this was all but a washout rain event that I more or less gave up even considering for anything much wintry (snow or sleet/ice). I'm honestly surprised at the changes, to be honest.
  16. It would be amusing if the para said, "hey dad, hold my beer!"
  17. Yeah, this. I can't believe that anyone seriously believes or is seriously looking for, an area-wide 6-12" event, especially in the metro DC area (I suspect PSU is being a little snarky with his comment, too). Fun to talk about or even get a little excited at the prospect, sure. Of course, if the models continue throwing that at us even as it's on our doorstep, then sure. But that aside, a solid thump of snow would be great. I don't mind that it will mix or change to sleet and ice, and completely expect that in this situation. My hope is that we can minimize (or even eliminate?) warming up and then getting dumped on with rain.
  18. Fishnado?? Looks like a satellite photo of fish coming out of the eye of a cat 5 hurricane, LOL!!!
  19. How about sleetburgers?? As long as we don't have sh*tburgers, I suppose!
  20. Yeah, hockey puck...no thanks. But also don't care to have it bleed and still say "mooo!"
  21. The NAM is an ice storm We shall not want. It maketh us slip and fall down In green pastures...
  22. Five Guys is considered an insult?? Say it ain't so!! What about Fuddrucker's, then?? (Though I'm actually partial to Daug Haus in Bethesda, good brats and burgers!!)
