  1. Finally rain is in the forecast for tonight & tomorrow. Then very good % mid week.  Plus cooler wx for Monday.  I don’t like the dryness but sure have loved the fall temps in June.  Luckily I stayed ahead of the dryness & watering the yard has paid off.  Some spots are dead but not many. I do dread higher water bill. Another thing that’s going to cost later towards fall is removing & replacing 17yo Hollies. Also a 14yo Jap Maple.  Strange they started coming out & then died.  Lots of very old smaller trees & bushes are dead around here.  That freeze on Dec. did a number.

  2. No rain here yesterday in mid TN but cloudy & 64 was unbelievable for Memorial Day! Today sunny but low 70’s.  Incredible wx it’s like fall.  Could use some rain this week.  I will take mid 80’s & humid with rain chances for summer anytime.  Longer heat stays away the shorter time it has.

  3. Wow. After the rains this morning. This afternoon has been totally refreshing.  Now I’m sitting on my screen porch & it’s like fall!  Absolutely love this wx.  It’s supposed to be upper 50’s for lows all week!  Yes please! I hope summer is cooler than normal with nights like this.  The longer the heat holds off the shorter the span of it.

Got hit pretty good around Knoxville. Several hail reports and a few trees down, especially along the 75 corridor through Knox Co. I picked up about .75”. Some places got around an inch. Exactly what the Dr ordered

    .

We got hit really good here in mid TN also.  We have many more rounds to go it appears from radar.  Love it!  Hate it for the Taylor Swift fans.  They are packed into the halls.  Wet & sweaty!  Luckily my wife & daughter & friends went yesterday.

Looks like we have our first "sort of " MCS complex arriving from the north early this afternoon in NE TN.  So far, the storms don't seem to be overly severe as the thunderstorm warning were just dropped.  We will see if they re-strengthen which can be a common characteristic as the afternoon warms.

Rain is welcome. Parts of my yard are dying already.  It’s only first half of May!

  6. Nature does seem out of whack.  I am noticing not as many birds, butterflies, trees struggling even dying after showing signs of emerging.  My Hollie’s are budding some but at the rate they are it will be late this year before they have leaves.  I had 2 beautiful spruce trees that were budding new growth now the new growth is dying.  Same with my Japanese maple. Other bushes  like Azaleas are slowly coming back but again will be several more months before they have leaves.  Unbelievable how messed up nature seems to be.

Definitely dry IMBY.  I see on the US drought monitor that the souther Plateau slipped into yellow.  Maybe building drought which is common w/ La Nina during early summer - guessing that is a hangover.  El Nino should take over at some point sooner than later...for now definitely dry.

    We definitely need rain.

April finished only 0.8F above normal after two days at 85+.  Overnight lows were actually below normal which is a testament to the number of days without rainfall - only 2.64" of rain for the entire month of April at TRI.  Dry spells equal cold nights quite often here in NE TN.  The La Nina hangover is upon us.  Hopefully, we see rainfall pick-up by mid-summer.

The Mountain West has really warmed up as places in western WY and NE Utah set records for seasonal snowfall.

We definitely need rain.  The winds have dried the soil out.

Weather patterns like to get more amplified coming out of winter into spring. Following the warm winter, the Arctic plays games on the spring jet stream. Autumn has not changed as much as spring, because the Arctic was always mild coming out of summer. Now I hand off to the Climate Change section of the forum.

Totally separately, WSJ reports a freight recession, smaller cargo loads, and fewer big rigs. Hmmm. I don't see that here. Who else still observes trucks clogging the Interstates? My guess is WSJ has national stats. Our regional economy remains strong. Silver lining to all these trucks everywhere, lol!

I travel for my job.  Mileage yearly for me is 35k.  I can say with certainty that for every passenger vehicle there is 2x maybe more big rigs.  I would say a ratio of 2 passenger vehicles to every 8 rigs in a mile. My trucking & hauling shops can not keep up with the demand at this time.  My construction is same.  Where is money coming from is anybody’s guess.  There is over 50% empty retail spaces in America but yet we see building retail spaces all over.  Soon this will hit a brick wall I’m afraid.

What a weird weather time we are in, been in. Last week in April and I’ll pull my window planters in because of the frost

    .

I expect cold springs anymore.  Soccer starts & cold, windy & rainy are normal anymore for spring.  I hate winter more each year when we have winter in spring!  We were in Cincy for a showcase this weekend.  Good grief this morning was cloudy, windy & 37!  It’s freaking end of April! We did go to Kings Island yesterday since our game was very early.  Was cloudy & cold but we dressed in winter clothes.  What a blast the parents & team had.  Some of those roller coasters are insane.  I rode the best wooden roller coaster ever there.  The Beast. 4.10 min long & 65mph around a cork screw.  What an adrenaline rush!  I did not do the 300ft high one that drops straight down at 92mph.  That was a big NO for me.  I hate heights!  My daughter loved it.  Lol.

Now the dreaded season (for me) is upon us. Heat, storms, flooding and waiting on that first cold front in September to arrive and seeing those first lows in the 40s. I don't know what the summer will bring, but we know it will be hot and humid. Severe season is already off to a bad start with the tornado outbreak that spurred a lot of fatalities last week. I know it can't be avoided but I hope we don't have any more this spring.

I believe severe season is coming to a close for this area.  Hopefully & thankfully. I love seeing the green but dread the hot & dry to come. Sadly it will be August before we know it & winter knocking on the door.  Amazing how the older one gets the faster time does go. May is my favorite month. March is my least favorite.

  12. After what happened in MS I would prefer chilly air than tornadoes.  Though unfortunately it seems we are entering a severe timeframe which always seems to go hand & hand with around Easter.  TN has been fortunate these last few years.  Hopefully our luck has not run out.  Friday is yet to be determined exactly but appears most affected is west to middle.  Now the 4/4 system could have many more involved. Time to perk up & listen to the experts.

I added a qualifier about the GFS being too cool and too stable in recent outbreaks.  Shear/vorticity are enough with even moderate instability for a significant severe outbreak w/ tornadoes.  No potential hazards is based on the GFS forecast of no instability, which is probably wrong.

    Thank you for the input.

GFS has been too cool and instability has been too low last few severe outbreaks.  10F warmer, and with some CAPE at BNA Friday evening, this is spooky sounding.

    It says potential hazards none?
