where is the guy that declared winter and accumulating snowfall over on 1/29? that prediction may have been the worst in the history of the forum

light snow falling this morning. If you remember 1994 we had a really snowy January and a lot of the news reports were saying that February was gonna be milder with a lot less snow. Obviously, that didn’t happen. But it was funny the same people that canceled winter in 2025 were also busy doing it in 1994.

The urban heat Island has been particularly affected by climate change. Somebody smarter than me should delve into this and do a research paper. The good news is if you live in the metro area if you get 10 miles out of the city proper, you haven’t been nearly as affected, especially at night…and that goes for all four seasons, not just winter. I believe it has to do with the increased humidity magnifying the effects of the urban heat island. The increased humidity is affecting the whole area, but it really magnifies the urban core. I grew up in Queens and I’m not that old. I remember plenty of nights in the summer in the 90s with windows open. that would be unthinkable today. I also grew up in Wading River on the beach…and we did not have air-conditioning. Nobody on the block had air-conditioning. That would be absolutely unthinkable today. The increase in humidity, especially the effects on nighttime low temps, has been astounding from 2000 onward.

Damn straight. enjoy 55 and rain followed by cold for all those rooting for this pattern much better off with the cold pattern and little events here and there Always better to be fighting suppression then fighting warm air in this new warmer climate

Were their wide discrepancies in high temps today region wide? Seems odd to see 55 degrees

I can’t believe we’re still arguing about this cold January. It was a cold January! And what made it even feel colder was because we’ve had a series of warm Januarys. please don’t minimize how big of a fucking deal it is that we’re gonna finish with a -3 or a minus anything in January. The same people that want to remind us all the time of how warm it is versus a 30 year average now want to minimize the fact that we have a cold month. Bizzare

You guys keep talking about warm and snowless the rest of the way while clinging to historical Nina data that hasnt played out well this season thus far. A simple 10 day forecast doesnt show warmth. If I was putting money on DraftKings for February I would go with a -1 to +1 and BN snow…but not a gooseegg. Lot’s of narratives in this forum (some from informed posters) that havent lined up with what is outside the window thus far

I just happened to be watching the news which I never do… And they had a whole segment with Nick Gregory on how they suspended fire Island service due to the ice in the Great South Bay. I guess I haven’t seen him in a while. He looks awful. Almost scary aging

This has been a pretty cool winter. Not much snow, but we had a week around xmas and now. But the cold has been potent…unlike past years. And area ski areas are thriving. I will put this Dec/Jan in the winter win column -1 in ROC this morning

Interesting that Lake Placid this morning checking in at -3F With these temps here, that should easily be -15F. But really shows that the core of the cold is south and west. Also of note, ATL (-6C)was colder than JFK (-4C) yesterday morning. And that wasnt the first time in the last couple of weeks I saw that
