  1. it goes along with all the other forms of geoengineering like usage of toxic pesticides that is driving the mass extinction of vital pollinators. Not only that, other creatures have been geoengineering for billions of years-- blue green algae (photosynthetic bacteria) changed the composition of our atmosphere to make it hospitable for us to exist.
  2. I always thought the clouds come in early when the wind flows from the S (sea breeze front) but now we have clouds coming in from the NW on a dry downsloping wind somehow too. Maybe we just have too much moisture in the air in this new era to expect a cloud free day with temperatures in the 90s-100s. I think thats why the extremes were higher during the 1944-1966 period with multiple 100+ degree heatwaves, there were far fewer clouds back then and of course less rainfall.
  3. they'll say humanity has already been doing that and causing a mass extinction to boot.
  4. Tony it hit 91 here but then clouds came in, where did these clouds come from? It's oscillating between partly and mostly cloudy here now.
  5. 1999 had a wonderful summer
  6. I think dimming is the wrong word to use, it makes it seem like we are going to eclipse the sun with a giant satellite lol
  7. we are going to start geoengineering in short order it's been happening for hundreds of years anyway
  8. yup, but more clouds where do these clouds come from anyway?
  9. are you comparing this to 1983, 1993 and 2010 in those regards?
  10. you'd think many of these people are big oil supporters but we also have a lot of people who acknowledge ACC and yet still don't want to stop using fossil fuels. They believe the economic hit plus having to radically change their lives is more important than ACC.
  11. this is much better than 2021, 2021 didn't even register on my radar. Our hottest summer by a country mile was 2010 and this is our second hottest so far.
  12. this wind scenario reminds me of JFK and the south shore, wherein a light northerly wind increases the temperature (an offshore wind) but if it's too strong it brings in the cooler air off the Sound.
  13. Thanks, I see that the 100 and 101 readings weren't all that far from Orlando. I also just heard that Jacksonville hit 100 too.
  14. It reminds me of what happened at JFK in June with the back to back 102 degree highs.
  15. There are massive wildfires going on in Turkey, Greece and even the island of Cyprus. Now that will really impact air quality and air pollution.
  16. Yeah nothing like that, actually India still has that dirty air and it causes migraines. They are setting up massive air filters to try and get rid of it. Also setting limits on how many cars can be on the road at one time. One of the positives of the pandemic was a lowering in air pollution rates.
  17. Records:Highs:EWR: 101 (1949)NYC: 97 (1999)LGA: 98 (1948)JFK: 98 (1949) Big heat this time of year in 1948, 1949 and 1999, it's interesting that no one made it to 100 besides Newark (they had 8 100+ days in 1949, only beaten by 1993's 9!!!) Maybe we can change that this week.....
  18. There are some thoughts that there would be a slight haze to the air from the particulate matter being in the sky, but that's about it.
  19. How far did the 100 degree heat extend into Central Florida Chris? Was Orlando at or above 100 too? They have a 1 in 10 year rate of 100 degree high temperatures, about equal to JFK.
  20. the so-called Maine lobsters used to be near Long Island, then they migrated north to Maine and now they have migrated even farther north into the Canadian Maritime provinces.
  21. wow NYC had many of these back in the day..... that was some amazing extreme heat between 1944-1966
  22. to be fair, I'd much rather lower the amount of water vapor in the air (before it reaches the saturation point and causes floods) and turn it into drinking water, that would have multiple benefits.
  23. it's good that I don't see any sign of smoke today just deep blue skies
