  1. it doesn't look like a cutter pattern with the above normal precip right along the east coast and drier west and north of here. although it could still happen, but it would be more likely if the wet anomalies were west and north of us.
  2. I worry about the Knicks, Thibs has a history of overworking his players and they're already starting to look tired.
  3. about the music, there's no way to scientifically prove it, but music likely peaked between the 60s and the 90s. Look at the types of songs and groups we had back then vs now, the lyrics were much more complex and read like stories and we used real musical instruments, vs the fake computerized crap. I forgot who it was but someone once said the downturn of music can be traced back to when songs started to be written by multiple people rather than one person writing the song. That became much more common starting around 2000. Personally I much prefer singer songwriter musicians over people who sing and/or perform other people's written material.
  4. I remember an F2 tornado hitting us on Long Island on Labor Day 1998.
  5. true, thats a little iffy.... moving the 3 out to 30 and removing the corner 3 would probably be enough, although it would also mean that if someone got fouled on a 3 the free throw line for shooting the foul shots should also be 30 feet away.
  6. No the current generation of hitters are juvenile and stupid, swing and miss variety (mostly miss).... I also blame the calculator jockeys for this. See above for my proposed list of changes to fix it. We need similar changes in basketball, the 3 point line should be moved out to 30 feet and there should be no corner 3s and when fouled on a 3 the free throw line should likewise be 30 feet out. A dunk should only be 1 point and a mid range jumper 2 points.
  7. Steroids ruined baseball in another way it created the current era of poor hitters who can't hit and are swing and miss like our new winters. I proposed a bunch of changes foremost among them is ANY hitters who strikes out 3x in a game should be kicked out of the game (like 6 personal fouls) another one is any hitter who bats less than .230 for half the season should be banned from MLB for the second half of that season. we already semi-banned the shift but it isn't enough. I also want to limit the number of pitchers allowed on the roster to 10.
  8. if the great lakes are so much warmer, shouldn't they be dumping a ton of snow in the lake effect belts and wouldn't the flow off all that snow cover make us much colder?
  9. one more for tomorrow I'm fine with 40s and sunny it's the rain I hate
  10. at this rate it probably won't come until February.
  11. wow I wonder why, even LGA is colder and they are the local hotspot.
  12. it's weird also because somehow JFK is a little above normal and NYC and LGA are both way below normal. There has been zero ocean influence this year so no idea what's going on. I want to see the actual averages for all these locations to be compared directly, rather than just these departures from average.
  13. last tropical season was very weird with displacement of african waves further north and historic SAL and the atlantic was historically quiet during peak tropical season, maybe that was a sign of that happening too?
  14. Thanks, SG, they also lead to more below zero arctic outbreaks. Are we close to entering another one of these periods? It seems like we've been in a +AMO forever (since 1995 I think?)
  15. But we are also cycling backs to a drier period as the historic all time dryness October-mid November period showed. I strongly suspect we will get another period like that this year, likely in the early part of the summer this time.
  16. Don, is this why no one ever talked about the EPO before the early 2010s?
  17. yes it's cyclic and worth noting, wet and dry are also cyclic, we have entered another dry cycle.
  18. looks like cold and dry except on the boundary of the arctic cold.
  19. yes the 2000s were much snowier, but before that the 1980s were our least snowy decade. Snow goes in cycles (unlike temperature.)
  20. el nino Don? DJF all had major snowstorms!
  21. Tony, it's rare for NYC to get double digit snow from a storm that dumps on Vermont and Albany like that too!
  22. north america is such a weak ass continent, we need to get our cold air from asia/siberia because north america is simply too small
