Even with winters like 1995-96 we eventually do get our big thaw, the difference is, it then flips back to real winter weather again. 2010-11 changed even more strongly, but that was also a stronger la nina than either 1995-96 or this one Weak la ninas after el ninos are normally good for us, but no telling if that relationship still holds.

This is more of a trivia thing Walt, but when was the last time we had an inch of snow between the first day of winter and Christmas and when it happened what percentage of the time did it result in a white Christmas? -
Right, it's almost like trying to draw a parallel between November snowfalls and below average seasonal snowfall. The real reason is it takes time for the pattern to reload.

If you got up early enough you saw it on the streets too. It only melted when the sun came out, it was still there until just before 9 AM.

Did you get around an 1" from the earlier December event, Ed?

It stuck here on the sidewalks and the roads but the sun burning the asphalt melted it in short order.

The airports too. That event earlier in December I woke up at 1 am to snow falling pretty hard, roofs and cars and tree branches covered with now and at 3 am it was all gone. Only a T recorded in the city and at the airports =\

another la nina bad bust I remember is February 1989 I stayed home from school for that one =\

aren't snowstorms notoriously difficult to pin down in la ninas because of the sharp cut off? The Boxing Day Blizzard wasn't pinned down until like the day before the event?

JFK may not have measured properly I dont know but when I woke up at 1 am car tops and roof tops and the trees were all covered and it was snowing fairly hard. I wish we could estimate snowfall from radar.

What did JFK get in that overnight event? I woke up at 1 am and saw we were snowcovered and woke up again at 3 am and it was all gone lol.

Nice to have almost everyone in the same range, with what's fallen since then and still falling we'll all likely be at 2.0 or above.

My same point that there is no difference between 0.01 rain and just a Trace (talking about October.) There was no real measurable rainfall that month, the first time I've ever experienced that here.

This December has overperformed on both events. I wonder if that means anything going forward.

Damn I must have caught that too, I was sick for 2 weeks and had to take a really strong antibiotic. Just starting to get better now. The worst part was the jaw pain I couldn't even eat solid food because it hurt so much. -

Correct me if I'm wrong but la ninas with less than 3 inches of snow in December, dont usually result in snowy winters, Chris?

This is a common occurrence, during the 80s we had many such Januarys where we averaged in the 20s with very little snowfall.
