  1. Anthony, a serious question for you. would you rather have current conditions—blocking but suppression? or Storms at 38 degrees? This winter has demonstrated or reminded us just how many things have to go right (or wrong) for it to snow near the coast. The last 20 years have been unbelievable, rather anomalous, there is a reason our long term averages are around 30 inches of snow.
  2. I’m sorry you inferred that from a simple true statement. That’s on you, not on my statement
  3. An average that has been bolstered by anomalous amounts the last 20 years numbers are easily manipulated look at the 1980’s, 1970’s I still maintain a lot of things have to go right in order for the tri state area to receive a major snow. The last 20 years I’ve been nothing short of spectacular
  4. Not rooting per se--I love snow and blizzards and cold as much, if not more than anybody. I come here to learn about the winter from the people who know waaaaay more than I do. However, this year is different. We are looking at the prospect of our darkest winter yet(in the Northeast)due to Covid. Cold and dry conditions are ideal for the virus Would a warm winter be the worst for all? At least be able to go outside. Not snowed in all winter
  5. Petty and nasty Have I told you to move when you root for snow when there is no way that it can materialize? Contrary to your beliefs, this area is not conducive to snow--
  6. Even though I was rooting for this to come to fruition, I suspected it was a bit early to declare the month as finished Hopefully the block disappears as quickly as it appeared
  7. If there was ever a day to hire someone to shovel, today is it. Very icy, very heavy snow Not worth the risk for those 40 or older
  8. I walked around---not a lot of soft spots, icy as heck, and wind is a factor but I don't see any drifts
  9. I am not too far from you--in Melville-- Checking my property as well as speaking with a local plow operator seems to indicate about 4 inches on the ground. Its heavy and icy out there, we did get rain and sleet last night, so I cannot comment on compaction, but we have about 4 inches on the ground now
  10. Snow mixed in with the rain-nasty day outside in Melville, NY
  11. Meaning less of a winter and more springlike temps?(or am I oversimplifying?)
  12. What are the implications of this? I definitely am enjoying this weather!! I hope it lasts through April and then we go right into summer. We do not need a winter to pile on all of the other challenges we will be faced with(Covid, Economy etc). We deserve nice weather which will enable us to stay outside and avoid close contact with others. Hopefully this will allow the hospitality industry to stay open as well. We do not need a harsh winter
