Upstate/Eastern New York

We like being the underdogs here! But yeah I’ve been noticing that as well. Not sure which model output that is showing but here is the GFS, way off! Normally with the gradient being so tight across BUF I just chalk it up to that but here the entire city and the airport are clearly colored as 24”+ but given a numeric value much less. I mean it doesn’t really matter in the bigger picture but still. Wonder where the actual “forcast point” is for BUF on PW map. -

Good banter topic since we got a few days of waiting... What’s everyone’s most memorable Christmas Eve / Christmas Day snow storm? Mine is Christmas Eve 2004. Short lived band but got over a foot in just a couple hours. Interesting tidbit I saw when going back to read up on the event. Crazy we haven’t had another storm on 24/25 in Buffalo since that one... It was Buffalo's 6th major (over 6") lake storm in the last 12 years on either Dec 24 or 25! -

Did you guys get any results back yet? I was surprised to get mine back this morning already and was negative. Went to the state site downtown Tuesday afternoon and had it back Thursday morning. But oddly my wife who went to the same site Tuesday morning still has not received any result. We went like right at the earliest possible day threshold, so could have been too soon. Getting tested again tomorrow, see if anything changes. Also a bit odd I still have yet to be contacted by the doh for my daughters positive test on Monday morning. -

I’ve been wondering this too. Does the vaccine give you permanent immunity? Look at the flu shot, you need one every year as the dominant strain keeps changing. We’re just passing year one on corona. Isn’t it possible the strain could change just enough to keep circulating and make the vaccine given now have no effect? As far as natural antibodies, I thought they only stay in the body for roughly 6 months. Have heard of people who got in March/April being reinfected in the fall. I know there is talk about the “T cells” (think that’s what there called) remembering the virus code and giving the body a leg up on better fighting the virus, but not the same as having an antibody load already present. -

Thanks. She’s doing much better today, fever is gone and she more active. My wife got hit hard today keeps getting waves of full body aches and extreme exhaustion. She takes a nap and wakes up an hour or two later feeling perfectly fine. I am still yet to experience anything I would call a symptom. I’m either about to get hit in the next day or two, asymptomatic, or I already had it and never knew it. Wife and myself both went and got the nasal probe test today. -

How have you guys been holding up? Just got the call that my 7 year old has tested positive. She woke up yesterday said she had a headache and felt really cold. She took a midday nap which she never does and woke up with a 101 fever. Went for the rapid test this morning and there it was. Only conflicting thing now is when me and my wife should get tested. My primary told me to wait 3-4 days from when my daughter became symptomatic, as a test to soon may not detect it right away, but my wifes primary said since we all live together she could get a test today and it would be accurate. Confusing. -

Loving the snow under the lights! Let’s hope Allen can muscle through it. He’s had some issues throwing in the rain this year. -

Good Luck to you and the family. That’s our biggest fear now is someone in the house getting it. The kids are 2 and 7 and with the smaller house and only one bathroom we don’t see how we could isolate properly. Are your kids in school or are you thinking there was a spread at gymnastics? I was surprised when we went orange they allowed the dance places and gym studios to stay open. Keep us updated on how you all are holding up. -

Yup. There is some cold air on our side, but the real artic air is on the other side of the pole. In fact it’s off the charts cold in central Russia. Just gotta get it to dislodge somehow... -

Yup feel the same. Even if it’s not going to be a huge event just craving to be under an intense band. Give me a sweeper that only stays over me for an hour but is dropping at 3-4”/hr. These little mixed bag events are such a tease... -

Just dropped my daughter off at school in OP and it was snowing pretty good, even the roads had a inch of slush on the them. Meanwhile get back to SB and it’s all liquid precip. Looks like once you get east of the 90 loop your snow, otherwise your too close to the lake. -

Just to much damn warm air being blown in off the lake. Did wake up to a coating here with a mix currently falling. -

I like the latest ARW map for the morning event. At least off Erie. 1-2” along the lake and into the metro where it will mix more. 2-4” into the suburbs. 4-6” high point somewhere out Alden Akron area.
