  1. It started as a burst of ZR here...after 10-15 minutes, it flipped to heavy sleet. That lasted about 30 minutes. There was a brief pause, then a good 2+ hours of moderate to heavy sleet that was winding down when I fell asleep between 1-1:30am. I wonder if you were raining during that period...
  2. Also, in hindsight I wish I would have measured the sleet. I have no idea how much I received but it was certainly more than .1". I had about 3 hours of sleet, much of it was moderate to heavy.
  3. Looks like the snow underperformed well up into NY State based on their thread this morning. Sleet line moved farther north than anticipated (shocking) and they're saying that it's winding down quicker than thought as well.
  4. Sometimes the weather excites us Sometimes the weather frustrates us Sometimes the weather makes us sad Sometimes the weather fascinates us Sometimes the weather might even scare us And sometimes...the weather humbles us I was seriously downplaying the ice factor for last night. I was wrong, and I'm not afraid to admit it. Another lesson learned, to file away and add to 50 years of continuous learning. That's what I love most about this hobby - you just don't really know.
  5. Interesting...everything save the roads (which is slushy) is still encased in ice. My steps and sidewalk are a mess. Things are improving now that the temp is 31.9, but this greatly exceeded my "prediction".
  6. Temp now at 29.8. Ground has a coating of sleet already. Mag, you were all over this. Kudos.
  7. Rain here - no sleet at all at least at the onset. Edit: it's raining hard.
  8. I honestly don't know. Temps will probably drop at least a degree or two initially I'd think.
  9. Radar does look very good to our west - it's going to come down to temperatures and how far we can fall below freezing at onset.
  10. Thanks, great writeup/discussion. I have dropped below freezing here (31.8) so perhaps there will be a little more than what I bargained for. Speaking of which, do you know where I can find road temp data?
  11. 33/28 here now - I expect zero icing on roads in this area. Perhaps some glazing on trees and power lines for a few hours later tonight. I think you need to get up in the MSV until there's issues of significance. Not unexpected.
  12. 24 hours later, CTP isn't looking so bad for waiting to hoist advisories.
  13. Latest from Elliott at MU: I created a "Wintry Mix Timeline" to depict arrival times of sleet/frz. rain this evening. Areas along & south of the PA Turnpike may only see a 15-30 min. period of #sleet before a transition to #ice, while areas north of the Turnpike receive up to 0.5" of sleet. #pawx
  14. CTP has removed sleet from my forecast other than a 20% chance before 8pm. All precip I do get is expected to be rain or freezing rain.
  15. Not good. I'm now at 35/26. I could say more but won't. LOL
  16. Thanks for posting both the temp and dewpoints - I'm at 34/24 at home right now. Have a hard time believing I drop much below freezing this evening. We'll find out soon enough.
  17. There was never to be much of anything during the daylight hours. In fact, as recent as yesterday, some forecasts for today included sunshine. If anything, today has "overperformed"
  18. I'd think you'd experience a pretty high impact event up there.
  19. Back to my CTP comments last night - it's tough to make decisions today. I have a lot of single parents working here who are in a huge bind when schools are closed. I'm very sensitive to that. But, there's still a business to run, and we have a lot of institutions like hospitals, nursing homes, and schools that are depending on our delivery. It's not an easy balance.
