  1. Places to visit - Jockey's Ridge State Park (milepost 12) has the largest sand dunes on the East Coast, plus a great visitors center. You can also climb both the Bodie Island and world famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouses. Both of those are on Hatteras Island. Bodie is only about 20-30 minutes south of KDH, Cape Hatteras is about an hour, but it's a gorgeous drive down NC 12. If you're looking for a day trip, drive 90 minutes to the southern end of Hatteras Island and drive on the free ferry to Ocracoke Island. Quaint little village at the end of the island with plenty of shops and restaurants. All local, no chain stuff. Between the drive and the ferry back and forth, you'll want to budget an entire day to do this.
  2. Spent at least 10 years staying in KDH - just 3 years ago I experienced 85+mph winds that blew Adirondack chairs off our 3rd floor deck. I posted quite a few stories about that storm. Restaurants - Kill Devil Diner is fantastic! It's down at milepost 8.5 on the Beach Road. Get there early or you'll have a long wait. Goombay's at milepost 7 on the Beach Road is also very good. Nice relaxed Caribbean vibe to it. Not too crowded for lunch, it does get crowded for dinner after 5-5:30pm. Tale Of The Whale is on the Causeway to Manteo. Awesome water views and great food. This place is packed for dinner, and for good reason. Go early! Have a fantastic week. This is the first year I'm not going to OBX since 2001. I miss it already.
  3. That was followed by a post from someone that's tired of lows in the 50s during the summer...
  4. I'm actually on the NE outskirts of Maytown (towards Mount Joy) and so I actually ended up in the darker green shading represented on that map...right in the "hole between Maytown and Mount Joy.
  5. Felt like the most uncomfortable morning of the year so far. It's a sauna.
  6. Those yellows stopped literally on the outskirts of Maytown...
  7. Is that map specific to last night, or for the entire day yesterday? I'm guessing it's just last night, as most of central and eastern Lanco got pounded yesterday morning. I finished with .16" of rain for the day - I have to think that MJS had to be in the virtual rain anus with his paltry total. Really sucks. For those of us that didn't get much of anything yesterday...now we face at least several more days of dry weather. It is what it is. One final thing - it is perfectly clear and almost hot already this morning. Dews are still through the roof. And, with next to no moisture, I think conditions are ripe to bake today. Fully expect me and the snowman to soar into the 90s. Take it to the bank. Along with my prediction that the Celtics would win. LOL (they needed more, much more from Tatum. What a disappointment he was so often during the finals.)
  8. Finished the day with .16" of rain. Sort of disappointing.
  9. It sure did. Solid hail core just NW of me but didn't hold up. Still raining here but not close to heavy.
  10. .05" here with very light rain. Not much lightning and thunder either.
  11. Yep. It's made zero inroads in the past 40 minutes. It might rain itself out over Harrisburg and environs.
  12. Dude was just talking about damage in Marysville- Blizz, hoping you and your family are safe.
  13. Warmest it's been all day here - hazy and 83.
  14. The "line" advancing towards us already has large gaps in it - doesn't instill a lot of confidence at this point. Maybe it will surprise. Euro backing off on heat? Nah. LOL
  15. CTP is already backing off the heat train for next week - they've shaved 10 degrees off my forecast high for Wednesday.
  16. It sucks - rain is really beneficial right now. I wonder what will happen to the line in NW PA as it moves into our area?
  17. Local forecaster said this might be one of the windiest periods in June that we'll ever see outside of stormy weather. Very unusual to have a long duration wind event during the 2nd half of June.
  18. Have to think we might see some Flash Flood Warnings soon in Franklin County - cells are moving east but seem to be redeveloping over the same area. #itstrainingtime
