"Little bit further inland..." What's 100 mile further north among friends? There wasn't a single model that had the mix line anywhere above 195 in nj. And it went 75 miles north of 195. Massive bust in central jersey no beating around the bush.
It's all about expectations. If we had been forecasted 6-12" like originally progged 48 hours out then this storm would feel like a big win. But jacking up totals hours before the storm only to get the chain yanked feels like a loss. You really can't go all in on an event in these parts until the storm is occurring. I mean every 00z last night had 18+" every single model over my house and I'm sitting at half of that... what's the point of even looking at them when they are that off at 6 hours lead time.. not a single model even came close to this storm.. that really says something.
Ugh I'm cursed today. First the sleet then stuck in this dry air. Can't that band just drift north a little bit! I'm honestly considering trekking down to my parents in levittown if this keeps up...
North of the borough, have almost 500 ft elevation as well. Definitely did better than just 5 miles down the road. We held on to snow late last night, didn't change over until this morning.
Picked up a little in intensity but still poor growth so not really accumulating quickly. Up to 9" storm total in Hopewell, NJ. I guess if I can get to a foot, it'll be an alright storm all things considered...
Lol sorry I don't trust anyone when they say it'll snow all day tomorrow. Same people that said this would be a bellringer this afternoon. 9 times out of ten it ends way earlier than progged as dry air is drawn in. Will prob be the case here. I'd expect it to taper off tonight.
3-6" maybe on the back side? We know how notoriously fast things end though? I don't have high hopes either even up here. Getting harder and harder any more to have a classic snowstorm...
Every time there is a prolonged fetch off the ocean the sleet line shoots n and w. Happens every time around here, no matter if there is a huge high to the north or not. Usually there's a model that shows it though that we dismiss but not this time. I don't expect things to go back to snow around here until the pivot unfortunately. Hope I'm wrong..
Back to sleet in Hopewell. Still think we ll probably get a foot due the duration but the real big totals are going to be in the lehigh valley. I bet my area down through se pa doesn't flip until late afternoon. Going to waste a lot of qpf as sleet.
Back to all snow in Hopewell. Several measurements in the yard average around 8" out there. Getting tough to measure with blowing though. I still don't have a legit board here yet so take my measurements with an * for sure. Anyone else nearby can verify?
Seems like the height of the storm will be 18z - 00z tonight. There will still be periods of moderate even heavy before and after those times but that time period should be the heaviest. 6 hours of 1-2"+ hour rates!
Well log off, and stop posting then. Worst of it hasn't even began forming. It's legit going to snow all day. (And night). I'd say by 9 am we should see the coastal start moving in.
Probably from like 04z-09z, seems like it could be back in full force by 12z and last all day through 00z... You can already see banding beginning to form off the coast.
