  1. yeah today definitely felt like winter.
  2. 11:35pm EST on Jan 14, DCA finally dips below freezing. A brisk 29F up in Tenleytown.
  3. That 2015-2016 winter was one of the strangest. Overall a warm winter, but NYC had its biggest snowfall on record and its first below zero temp in 22 years (I remember running the evening before and not enjoying it one bit lol). Hopefully we can all salvage some semblance of a rescue in terms of snow like we saw that winter, but.... not looking great.
  4. We've had an identical problem in DC. DCA has touched 32 a couple times, but that's it. It just won't get below freezing. Even with the front coming through this morning, DCA is sitting at 40F at midnight in mid January. Something is very wrong.
  5. those would make it more difficult for him to back into the conclusion he's already made and to which he's trying to force the data to conform, so I doubt he is handling those very real and significant issues at all.
  6. DCA high low for today was 55/40. Still struggling to get near freezing.
  7. yeah i remember I needed to get something out of my car, so I was outside in the parking lot and sure enough, a flash and a loud bang. The snow was blinding.
  8. I was visiting a friend in NW DC - only time I've ever experienced thundersnow. It was awesome.
  9. I think there also has to be a slight increase in the probability of just insane snow events. Yes, it will snow less overall. But it still gets cold enough to snow here, and every so often the "stars will align" and you'll get a sufficient air mass that overlaps in time with one of the super-charged storms we are seeing more often (2016 for example).
  10. had that "feels like snow" feel a lot of today. Alas...
  11. lol no - i haven't even bought a shovel yet. I know how this works
  12. we just bought a house (first time living in a house in like 20 years) - i need to shovel my own gd snow at least once. Come on.
  13. lol - you physically being in the DMV has been the problem this whole time. man...
  14. we're nearing the coldest climatological period of the winter, and major NE cities are struggling to get below freezing.
  15. Lowest temps so far this year: DCA: 32 PHL: 31 NYC: 33 BOS: 25 man....
  16. With a low of 32, DCA has yet to dip below freezing this year. LOL.
  17. yeah except for the millions of people who live there, of course.
  18. lol I lived in Staunton from 1991-2002 (and then 4 years in C'ville after that) and my parents still live there, but ok. In 1994 we got down to -15F in town, on a day that only barely got above zero. 1996 had a similar cold snap. Night time temps in the teens were common from Dec - late Feb. Even this year's Christmas cold snap would've yielded below-zero temps in town years ago - instead it was right around zero.
  19. It's even more pronounced for cities closer to the coast. I feel like NYC has barely gotten below freezing at all this season (aside from the brief Christmas cold snap).
  20. 20-30 years ago, nighttime temps in the teens were routine there. Now with a pretty good airmass in mid Jan and optimal cooling conditions, you're stuck in the 20s. That translates for the urban areas that used to get into the 20s now stuck above freezing even overnight. It's a major problem (if you like snow).
