    why can't you square it with a warmer-than-normal base state? Just because it's warmer doesn't mean it's not cold enough to snow anywhere. These are high elevation mountains.

    Man that last SST map really shows it - the North Atlantic is on fire. Also, does it seem that the Gulf Stream might be weakening? It seems that a lot of the really anomalous warm waters aren't necessarily making their way across the Atlantic and are instead saying close to our shores

    to me the most unnerving thing is that it's not like we've had shots of freak warmth (although we might get that next week). Sure, we've gotten to around 70, but it isn't THAT atypical for a given winter for it to happen once or twice. It's just been... mild - basically wall to wall. It hasn't felt like winter at all except for a few fleeting moments.
