    Some folks thought the idea of this was just silly and not based on modeling. Now here we are. Snow means are better for DC than Chicago. Real annoying thing is that we aren’t seeing any good signals for a sustained warm up either, so we are stuck in this pattern.

    Pretty clear from the 06z GFS that Chicago could get goose egged. Even after this system, it’s very bleak through mid January. .

    Seems crazy if it’s a season where the gift keeps giving. This season, folks are a bit jaded by the start to the season where we had a lot of cold go for naught with CAD and the possibility of seeing that transpire again in the heart of winter. That said, we’ve at least had several model runs showing warning level snows for Chicago. It trended away as of late but was at least nice to get some fantasy snows. There’s always a chance it trends back north but the GFS and Euro right now are not there.

    Yeah we’ll need to get through CAD. Late January and February may give us a more classic Nina with something to work with. Maybe? .

    Even the clipper tracks may set up to the south. An epic couple of weeks coming for the middle and Deep South. Happy for those folks. Always good seeing places that don’t get a lot of wintery events to get in on the action.

    We had entrenched cold in December but little to show for it outside of the snow belt. 0z GFS wants to run it back. But…it’s snowing in Florida so there’s that. About as miserable a stretch as one could imagine. Thankfully just one ridiculous Op run.

    As a relative newcomer to the Midwest, specifically Chicagoland, I harbor no ill will toward any Michiganders, except for you LES region cheaters. I hate all of you. [emoji2375]

    It will be similar to early December. Euro trended south this run. Would expect it to trend that way on GFS as well. Still think we don’t get any substantial snow until this pattern relaxes in late January. Delayed but not denied.

    Hate to keep beating this dead horse but this was the weakest hyped up torch since the last hyped torch. .
