  1. More heavy downpours today. Just passed 5.50" for August.
  2. Only 0.23" from the activity this afternoon. Still, today was the 51st day with measureable precip here in the last 14 weeks.
  3. Winds gusting above 30 mph with a thunderstorm on the doorstep.
  4. Pouring rain here. This should send me over 5 inches for August. A fourth consecutive month of 7"+ looks likely, which is incredible and unprecedented.
  5. 0.65" today. 3.61" for August. Measureable rainfall now on 48 of the last 95 days here.
  6. The rain just seems relentless at this point. 1.42” the past 24 hours. 2.31” since Monday. 24.53” in the last 12+ weeks.
  7. 0.80" this afternoon. 7.26" for July, the third month in a row that my yard exceeded 7". I haven't found any other instances of that happening in this area after checking various records going back to the early 1900's.
  8. Waiting to see how Mon-Tue turns out, but at this point only 1996 (20.53") and 2003 (20.53") featured more rainfall at Martinsburg than this May-Jun-Jul period (19.12") Those two years, along with 1942 and 1975, are the only times that MRB has gone over 50"+ for annual precipitation. Currently at 30.75", which is 8.08" above normal through this date.
  9. Totals here so far: Saturday 1.60” Sunday 0.10” Monday 1.66”
  10. Tent camping on the lower Eastern Shore from this coming Friday through next weekend. Last year we tried twice there; the first weekend in July and again on Labor Day weekend. Got dumped on both times. Reserved this site over a month ago but the forecast isn't looking too promising for tenting or beaching. Guess we will bring the bikes in the event it's a washout.
  11. Low of 53. Great morning to spend in the garden. Picked garlic, onions, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, black berries and blueberries under cool sunshine.
  12. Afternoon thunderstorm dropped 0.83” of rain here. After a break, steady lighter rain has moved in. This should push the total for the day over an inch.
  13. 93 with a heat index of 102. My daughter's softball games scheduled for this evening and tomorrow evening at 5:00 have been cancelled. Kinda relieved since she is catching this summer and I wasn't sure how that would go. Catching gear isn't exactly "loose fitting clothes."
  14. Driving north on I 81 in some of the heaviest rain I’ve driven in in a long time. Won’t be surprised to see some wind damage reports in the Martinsburg area as the storm came in with a pretty good vengeance.
  15. From Facebook, some photos from Martinsburg of storm damage:
  16. From what the wife said she had heard when I spoke with her a few minutes ago, it sounds like possible touchdown may have been right near your old place. Hope everything’s OK.
  17. Some brief small hail, but no significant wind with the cell that was severe in PA before it diminished on its way here. Did pick up 0.79" in 15 minutes, which left a lot of standing water
  18. Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the northern and western LWX counties until 11:00 p.m.
  19. Sure did ! As your Boom thread notes, its been a great stretch for March snows. Hopefully next year will bring a better distribution of snow throughout the winter season.
  20. I edited my original post, but through Saturday's event there are now 6 winters in the past 93 years in this area with a lower total than what I have measured this season. Still a pretty rough year, but hoping for at least one more snowfall in March.
  21. As the rain falls on this February evening it seemed like the right time to bump this. Here is the mountain to climb to avoid one of the worst snowfall seasons ever in my area (currently 3rd lowest since 1925) #80: 1987-88 9.9" #81: 1991-92 9.5" #82: 1975-76 9.4" #83: 2011-12 8.4" #84: 1994-95 8.0 #85: 1949-50 8.0 #86: 1937-38 7.7" #87: 2017-18: 7.3" #88: 1954-55 6.7" #89: 1930-31 5.7" #90: 2008-09 5.1" #91: 2001-02 4.9" #92: 1972-73 3.0" #93: 1931-32 1.4" Edited through 2/17
  22. Hagerstown finished 2017 over 6" below normal for precip for the year. That was after 12" below normal in 2016. Ever since the blizzard in January 2016 we haven't only been lacking in WSW events. In general, we have been lacking in consistent precip. Really hoping we can break the cycle early in 2018. Otherwise, issues are going to present this spring and summer.
  23. I had 8.4" for the season, but 4" of that was in the October storm.
  24. 92 seasons in the period of record here, and only these seasons had less than 6" 1930-31 (5.7") 2008-09 (5.1") 2001-02 (4.9") 2016-17 (3.1") so far 1972-73 (3.0") 1931-32 (1.4")
