Dulles has had 18 January storms of 6”+ since 1964. Eight of those came in 4 winters (2 each in 1966, 1987, 1996 and 2000.)

High temp was 31.  Dropping like a rock now with ideal radiational cooling conditions.  Down to 22.

A few flurries are blowing around this morning.  This is the ninth day this month with some amount of flakes here.

Several of those analogs had historic cold snaps in the Mid-Atlantic.  January 1970, 1977, 1981 (along with 1985.)

It’s been a nice start to winter here.  MRB is -2.6° for the month with only a few mild days so far.  Should be at about -3.5° heading into Christmas Eve.  Precip has been above normal and it’s already snowed a couple of inches. Happy to see the moisture showing up after such a dry year.

Snow showers for the last 30 minutes, with good enough rates to put down a decent dusting, even with a temp of 34°.

Barometric pressure is about as high as we ever see.  30.80”+ for the entire region.

00Z 3k NAM holds onto 850’s a couple of hours longer than 18Z did here in the WV panhandle.
