  1. I remember clippers. They use to be cold, dry systems. Most of the time you just get gray sky, cold temps and flurries. Once in a while we'd get a whopper (2-4") cold smoker. Seriously. What happened to clippers?
  2. Heard my first peepers on Friday. Another tropical flooding rain. Now we watch the SE get a historic blizzard. The big ones are sniffed out early lol
  3. In my head I've already started calling the storm around the 5th, the Cape Storm. Hopefully the Cape Storm doesn't give Georgia more snow than we've had in 3 years combined lol
  4. My snow is nothing but a great memory. It all melted overnight. Bare ground for a couple weeks before hopefully round 2 in February.
  5. Seeing the rythm of nature exposed by snow is one of the magical things about snow. I probably hiked 30 miles last week. Most of it in the snow. The highest traffic of deer I saw the entire week was right past where my vegetable and weed garden is going this summer lol. I've got a fence, thankfully.
  6. Yup. It's my favorite place. It's only 5 minutes from my house.
  7. I've had snow on the ground for 8 days. I hike on a local mountain bike trail network. It's not crowded. I never see too many people, well.. until I spark a joint. Than some boy scout group will pop up. Anyway.. The amount of dog piss over 8 days is pretty amazing. It's basically a trail of piss and shit lol. I'm high. End of rant.
  8. This past week was exactly what I needed. It was perfect here where live. I made up for a lot of the past shitty winters. I had an amazing week. I definitely made it memorable. I did stuff I've wanted to do for a long time. Oh, yeah. This is the panic room. Oops. Well. That sucked. My beautiful 9" thick snowpack is turning into swamp.
  9. Definitely once in a lifetime here swamplands. February was insanity. The blizzard that followed the GOAT storm was epic that morning. I felt like I was in Lake Placid, NY. That was a beautiful and powerful display of winter power.
  10. I've lived here my entire 45 year life. The coldest winters consists of a week or 2 period of cold. 2-3 weeks average. Then another period of cold for a week or so. That's it lol. If we get another week like we just had. This will be an epic winter imo. We even had a couple cool wind events and flooders. I'm feel satisfied this morning. I'm ok with 2-3 weeks of normal weather. If Feb produces another storm or cold white period, winter 23-24 will be the best winter since 2010. 2010 btw wasn't cold at all. I had 30" of snow on the ground and temps around 50 every day. The February period was pretty epic. It lasted a few days. Rant over.
  11. He brought us the Jebwalk. I've done many Jebwalks and thought about this man. He's an icon and only dude from Texas allowed to post current observations in Texas lol. Jebwalk in the 2.50" of rain, Jeb!
  12. The way people were talking around here I thought we were in for 60's and 70's lol. I looked at my 10 day and it looks pretty normal. I saw one day of 60 degrees. Still deep winter today.
  13. Same. Not sure what this is about lol
  14. Last beautiful winter morning of winter vacation, 2024. Finished this beautiful stretch of weather with a low of 12. RIP, Vermont conditions. Welcome back, Base State lol
  15. I just went out to grab my bong off the patio and it was frozen. It wasn't out there very long. Also 22 here on the other side of the bay. Great way to end a pretty epic cold spell.
  16. Another absolutely glorious winter day. Deep blue sky, cold temperatures, stable, thick snowpack. What an amazing stretch of winter weather. I've spent the week, hiking, wondering and just taking it all in. My local hiking trails were in beautiful condition ever since last Sunday when they froze. Today they were packed snow and beautiful. It would of been a super rare, perfect week for cross country skiing on what's normally mountain bike trails. The past 7 days gets a 10/10 for me. Being self employed allows me to take off Jan, through the middle of February.
  17. Yup. The entire 45 years of my life. Just about every big snow event (12+ inches) I remember was followed by 60 degrees. Even the blizzard of 78 was like 70 degrees a day later. We're not Lake Placid lol.
  18. You must not be from the area. This is how a decent winter happens. Most winters we never get lucky enough to have such a beautiful period of winter weather. If we're lucky enough to get another storm or cold white period this winter will be an A in my book. This week made my winter. Everything else is a bonus.
  19. Don't get me wrong. I'm a HECS hunter too. It's just I definitely don't get emotionally attached to the idea of getting one. My idea of a amazing winter doesn't include a HECS. I'm a simple man that loves cold and snow. This week was better then the 2016 storm where I got 20+ inches of snow. It was 60 degrees 48 hours later and stayed 60. The storm itself was fun. Awesome to experience. This week was the best for me since 2010. 2018 had a nice snowy cold spell too. But this one was epic the way it played out. I did a 7 mile hike in old growth forest on Monday. I'll never forget that day. It was amazing.
  20. Epically beautiful morning. Reminds me of being in Lake Placid. These mornings are what winter is about imo. What a beautiful day on tap. I hope everyone gets out and enjoys it. Low of 16
  21. HECS hunters lol. I forget about those storms. Too rare to care about. I'm a winter hunter. I hunt winter conditions. This week was as good or better then a HECS. You HECS hunters could go 30 years without one. I'm just as happy chasing the elusive 10 incher followed by cold weather.
  22. I agree 100%. I'm going B, even if that was it. One more event would make it an A in my book. We had some interesting non snow storms as well. This week was epic.
  23. This week of weather has been amazing. I'll take this week over a 20" HECS followed by warm and rain. I've had about 10" of snow this week, cold, snow on snow. Now blowing snow a cold winds. This week made this winter memorable imo.
  24. I'm starting to think I might make the 6" club. Just keeps on coming.
  25. I've been getting hit hard this entire event. I'd estimate I'm up around 5 new. Probably 8 on the ground. It's been really impressive out here east of DC. Sorry, PSU. This is ours lol
