The LWX forecast discussion is a very good read for the flood threat today.

I’ve watched the same storm try to fire just north of me in Reston for the past 4 hours and it keeps failing. It seems like we’re just missing some ingredient for now.
-
Now the rain is winding down with around an inch total with temps knocked way down. Hoping that the storm entering louden is able to hold together enough to cancel my meet tonight.
-
I’m around 5 miles east of the airport and for a little bit the wind shifted to be out of the west and got pretty intense. Had to be a microburst over the airport.
-
I’ve been coaching everyday this week and so far this morning is by far the worst feeling. Not looking forward to the meet tonight.

Without power and the generator went out so having to carry buckets to prevent the basement from flooding. Can any met chime in on how much more rain/rounds of storms we may get and when?
-
Got missed with winds less than 40 gusts. Areas both north and south got slammed. For once I am happy I didn’t get the worst of it.

On this note fireflies do best in this type of weather so they are out in full force tonight. Highly recommend walking to a nearby wet wooded area.

Got 1.5 inches of rain last night and then already at an additional .75 from this batch and still raining. FFW up too.
-
So would the storm mode mainly be pop-up microbursty stuff or a squall line?

What would the storm mode be? Could we even possibly see a derecho?

Franklin farm (south of Reston) got one of the nastiest splits I’ve seen. Storms were to the north and south slowing congealing to be on top of us and then more or less jumped just east into a line.

Amazing how quick those storms popped up. Checked the radar 10 minutes before taking pictures of the moon and then while I was in the middle of the shoot I felt the gust front and had to scramble into the car. Basically went from 0 on radar to a strong line of storms hitting (with some hail but strangely no real thunder) in 20 minutes

Any Mets want to chime in on if those storms entering VA will hold together through fx county? Want to know how swim practice will go tonight.
