Weather Station

Recommended Posts

I had a Davis Vantage Pro 2 for 12 years until it crapped out unfortunately. I really enjoyed it, but it was a pain to clean and maintain because of how big and different size parts were on it. I don’t need anything that size again.

I was looking into weather stations and I especially like how sleek and simple the Tempest weather station (new 2026) model is. The lightning detector is also very attractive and would be cool to have. It’s on sale right now too for $60 off. Anyone have this model? Is it worth it?

I had a Davis VP 2 years ago, as well.....agree that the maintenance is cumbersome and the data interface is not very user-friendly. Ambient is a nice alternative....not a huge step down in terms of accuracy and much less of a PIA. I've had it for about 7-8 years.

Yeah…on my VP2 after like 10 years, the battery wouldn’t hold a charge and my station was in direct sunlight almost all day. Davis sent me a replacement capacitor to install. 6 months later, same issue. They told me most likely the solar panels were going bad and needed replaced, which would have been expensive. Also, the funnel rain gauge would clog all the time and I would miss rainfall because of it. It was a huge pain in the butt to get my data uploading to Weather Underground. I was never a fan of Weather Link.

I decided on the Tempest! Should be a breath of fresh air having a compact little station with little to no maintenance. The Tempest App seems tons better and more interactive than Weather Link and I’ll be able to get notifications. The lightning detector on the Tempest is also a huge plus!
