It might be a bit of ptsd, but I’m getting worried about this pattern ahead of an increasingly favorable Atlantic.

Most models are shifting the heaviest rain SE so we might only get an inch or 2.
BooneWX
First, I absolutely realize this is the equivalent of posting a 10:1 snowfall map 300 hrs out but to my point yesterday, I think we’re heading for some dangerously prime conditions in the SW Atlantic. Sea surface temps are bath tub warm, it looks like whatever wave makes it west of the Antilles will have optimally low shear and won’t be competing with dry air. “Ridge over troubled water” pattern inbound… Lots of solutions on the table but this ridiculous one from the GFS isn’t the only model firing warning shots. The ensembles seem to like the odds of a strong system on this side of the hemisphere in 10ish days. .
strongwxnc
Up to 1.14” so far today. Nice and slow also. .
calculus1
Started raining around 6:30 PM. I have accumulated 0.6 inch of rain so far, or 0.15 inch per hour, which is way more than the 0.03 inch per hour shown in the hourly forecast on the point and click from NWS. We have already exceeded the “quarter to half inch” of rainfall we were supposed to get overnight, and the night is still very young. Lots of moisture downstream. The HiRes NAM forecast of close to six inches over the next 60 hours looks much more likely to transpire than the GFS forecast of an inch or so..
calculus1
Made it up to 78.4 today after not reaching 70 either of the previous two days. My low this morning was 61.7. Very nice for August 4!Currently 66.8 and moderate rain..
calculus1
Ended up with 1.36 inches overnight since it began at 6:30 PM yesterday evening. No rain currently, and the heavy axis of rain is to our south and east. It appears to be drifting northward, but we shall see. .
wncsnow
Only .73 here.
BooneWX
6z 3K NAM has almost 8 inches from Cleveland and Rutherford counties up to my neck of the woods. It looks like a new fetch sets up overnight in the foothills. HRRR wayyyyy further east with the axis.
calculus1
The axis of heaviest rainfall continues to be to the south and east of Hickory, essentially along I-85, this morning. The axis may be drifting ever so slightly north and west, but the point-and-click forecasts seem to be misplaced based on the observed conditions. calculus1
Hardly any rain here in Hickory today, just about one tenth of precipitation. The heavier axis of precipitation never retrograded enough to affect us. Point-and-click forecasts up to an inch of rainfall tonight and over half an inch tomorrow. We shall see, but radar returns are quite paltry over the entire southeast at the moment.
wncsnow Posted yesterday at 12:56 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:56 PM We've had just brief peaks of sun the last 2 days after not having any for 6 days. I can't remember a more cloudy non tropical spell in August.

mercurydime
Glad to see I'm not alone in being a bit surprised on rain amounts. I've had an inch this morning proper in the last 3 hours or so to put me at 1.60" since midnight.
