The Glass Mountains & Great Salt Plains of Northwest Oklahoma

Took a trip up to NW OK to see the Glass Mountains, a series of mesa-like features that rise above the Plains. Try to ignore the stupid blotch ... I've got a chipped lens. :( It is pretty incredible how far you see by only rising ~200 feet:

An abandoned homestead, likely from the Dust Bowl era, in Cherokee, Oklahoma:

The Great Salt Plains: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_Plains_National_Wildlife_Refuge - pretty cool geologic place with an interesting history of chemical warfare testing.

Hundreds of dead fish, likely due to drought conditions.

Great shot -- really love the panos! A very cool area, though the landscape is kinda depressing right now.

I haven't been to the Glass Mountains in way too long. The Wichitas are always too tempting when I feel like hiking or landscape photography due to their proximity and larger area, but the Glass Mountains are even more unique, and there's usually not another soul there. The GSP and the house+windmill in Cherokee both look like prime candidates for awesome star trails (or just moonlit night exposures) -- I'll have to keep that in mind when driving back from busts in SW KS this year. ;)
