Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Friday, May 2, 2014
  •

Friday cooled off a bit as we continued to dry out from this week's torrential rains. There were still a few renegade showers widely scattered in the region, and scattered clouds at times at least in areas that didn't get any rain. Tonight clouds have hung around with temps remaining mild in the low-mid 50s. Might hit down around 50 by sunrise on Saturday.  The weekend should be pretty nice, with sunny to partly cloudy skies, highs around 70-75 and only a 30 POP for showers scattered about the region.  They will be light if they do develop, and won't last too long. The pattern will gradually evolve next week into significant warmth by week's end, with highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s and 60s. Early in the week there are some chances (30-40 POP) for rain showers from time to time, with clouds hanging around also on occasion.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Sunday, May 4, 2014

Sunday was a partly cloudy day, similar in warmth as Saturday, with less of a threat of showers today vs. Saturday. Tonight similar low 50s for temps early this Monday morning under clear skies - temps should lower into the 40s by morning. The week ahead features seasonable to warm temps by the end of the week (into the 80s by Friday and Saturday) with some periods of showers and possibly storms from time to time.We have to get used to this pattern, this is foreshadowing out typical summer pattern that will be taking hold over the next several months. Thankfully the temperatures are still moderate and dew points are still tolerable in the 40s and 50s.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Monday, May 5, 2014

Monday was a partly cloudy day, cooler than Sunday, as high temps stayed in the low-mid 60s all day. Showers developed along a weak frontal boundary running NW-SE from PA through our region. Most of the precip fell in northern VA down into parts of Southern Maryland, but I did manage to get a light shower this evening.  Some convective activity developed, and I saw a severe thunderstorm warning was posted post-midnight for several northern Virginia counties roughly within 20-25 miles to my west.  Temps have fallen into the upper 40s early this Tuesday morning and should bottom out in the mid 40s by sunrise. Tuesday should see partly cloudy skies with high temps in the mid-upper 60s. Wednesday should see temps rise a bit, under partly cloudy skies with a 30 POP for showers. Thursday and Friday should be mostly cloudy, warmer and more humid, with high temps at or a bit above 80 and lows in the 50s. A 50 POP for shower over the weekend with temps in the mid-upper70s, lows mostly in the 50s.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Tuesday, May 6, 2014
  •

Tuesday featured a cloudy morning with a very light shower, then clearing skies and warmer in the afternoon as temps rose into the mid 70s. Tonight temps have dropped off into the low 50s early this Wednesday morning, and probably will bottom out in the mid-upper 40s by sunrise.  Wednesday should see temps in the upper 60s with partly to mostly cloudy skies, and a slight (20 POP) chance for a shower, and a 30 POP in the evening for a shower or even thundershower, as temps warm up and dew points start to rise as a warm front passes through the region. Thursday and Friday should see sunny to partly cloudy skies, more humid, and quite warm with highs in the low-mid 80s. Lows in the 50s on Thursday night and low to mid 60s on Friday night. Over the weekend partly to mostly cloudy skies, highs in the upper 70s with a 60 POP for showers on Saturday and a 40 POP Saturday night into Sunday. Lows mostly in the upper 40s to low 50s. Mother's Day won't be a washout, but carrying an umbrella or bumpershoot would be a good idea if you are going to be outside for any length of time.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Wednesday, May 7, 2014
  •

On Wednesday AM clouds and a period of showers fell from 1145-1315 that contained embedded thundershowers also, but no thunder heard at my station (I was home for the day). Then slow clearing in the afternoon, but temps remained relatively cool, in the low-mid 60s the rest of the day. Tonight humidity has crept up, dew points rising into the 50s, with temps remaining (so far) in the mid 50s early this Thursday morning. A 50 POP for showers and possibly a thunderstorm overnight with temps only lowering to around 50 by sunrise, then a 50 POP for morning showers, then partly cloudy in the afternoon and warming into the low to possibly mid 80s, but there are hints that the warm front advancing from the south might struggle a bit to pass through our area and lie north of us and putting us in the warm and humid conditions that areas far to my south down in the Carolinas have been experiencing.  Over the next several days we will be in the upper 70s to low 80s for the most part, with lows in the mid 50s to low 60s, and at least a 30 POP most days for a spotty to scattering of showers and possibly a thundershower. Mother's Day certainly doesn't look like a washout, but a shower at some point is not out of the question.  The warm front will be hanging around and not really pushing totally out of the area into next week but slight variations will cause us to get into the warm and humid air, foreshadowing a bit of summerlike conditions.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Thursday, May 8, 2014
  •

Thursday started out with some clouds and light fog, mild, and damp. Clearing skies by mid-day, and the warm front was through and the temperatures rose quickly, well into the 80s by the late afternoon, with the 87.7° high temperature the warmest reading (so far) this year. It was horrible! Dew points rose into the mid 60s, which would be tolerable (barely in mid-July) but not in early May! Gross! This evening the temperature has dropped slowly, and early on this Friday morning values are still in the upper 60s. By morning I believe we will only drop into the low to mid 60s, with patchy drizzle and fog under cloudy skies. Clouds Friday morning will clear by mid-day and give us a sunny afternoon with temps soaring once again into the mid 80s. Clouds and showers should develop on Friday evening (60 POP). Cloudy on Saturday with highs in the upper 70s and a 70 POP for showers and storms most all day, but not a total washout. Sunday should see only a small chance (30 POP) for a stray, isolated shower for Mother's Day, with highs in the low 80s. The coming week will feature more hot weather at the beginning of the week, with highs possibly approaching 90 by Tuesday, then clouds and showers should overtake the hot weather and bring our high temps down into the low 70s by the end of the week. Most nights during the coming week should be mostly in the 50s, at times warmer into the 60s like tonight. Summertime Blues are coming early to our area this year.  Hopefully Mother Nature will even things out and we will have a goodly number of cool, dry temps in June and July.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Friday, May 9, 2014
  •

Friday started out mostly cloudy and warm, and continued that way most of the day, with some glimpses of sun in the afternoon, but not enough to raise our temps to/over the 80 mark like on Thursday. But it was still pretty muggy and continues that way this evening/early Saturday morning, with temps holding in the mid 60s. Probably will not sink much lower overnight, low 60s at best by sunrise. Saturday should be mostly cloudy most of the day, with a good chance of showers and thundershowers, particularly in the afternoon and evening (70 POP) with high temps in the upper 70s.  Mother's Day Sunday should clear with mostly sunny skies and high temps in the low 80s, lows in the upper 50s. Monday should be partly cloudy with highs in the low 80s, lows in the low-mid 60s. Tuesday increases our chances of showers and storms up to a 40 POP, highs in the 70s. Wednesday more of the same, POP rising to a 50 POP with high temps in the mid-upper 70s. Thursday looks like the really wet day, with an 80 POP for showers and storms and high temps in the low 70s, lows in the 50s. Friday should still see showers and storms, but at a lower 50 POP.  We could get a few inches of rain potentially during this late in the week period.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Saturday, May 10, 2014
  •
Saturday was mostly cloudy and muggy with dew points remaining in the 60s all day. We had a few glimpses of sun in the afternoon but also had a brief shower around 3 PM, and then in the evening when most of the day's rain fell. There was a severe thunderstorm warning posted for my county (Montgomery) in the mid-afternoon but it hit to my north, and I didn't hear any thunder or observe any lightning.  Tonight the skies have cleared late, and temps have dropped down into the upper 50s with the moon shining through a scattered cloud deck. Mother's Day Sunday should be sunny and warm, with high temps in the low 80s, drying out some. On Monday it should warm up even more, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 80s. Clouds then will be on the increase, and most of the week features a 50 POP for showers and storms till Friday, a bit more likely on Thursday evening (60 POP). Temps will be topping out in the 70s, upper 70s at first, then low 70s later on in the week. Lows will mostly be in the 50s to low 60s. Friday night should eventually clear out, lows in the 50s, then partly cloudy skies on Saturday with highs "only" in the upper 60s.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Mother's Day Sunday, May 11, 2014
  •
Sunday was a beautiful Mother's Day, full of sun and drier air with dew points lowered into the 50s most of the day. Temps did make it over 80 but just barely, and most of the day it was in the mid-upper 70s after an overnight with temps in the upper 50s. Tonight temps have dropped into the mid 60s early this Monday morning, with the dew points still in the 50s but starting to creep up a bit. Lows by sunrise probably will be around 60.  Monday and Tuesday during the day will see a return to obnoxiously warm upper 80s for high temps with sunny to partly cloudy skies with dew points rising into the 60s - Tuesday has a 30 POP for showers and storms, mostly of the scattered hit or miss variety. Lows Monday night will be in the 60s.  Thereafter the rest of the week should see more clouds than sun, temps lowering somewhat with the increase in clouds and moisture, with highs in the 70s or lower 80s, lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Rain chances start out with a 40 POP on Wednesday, but rise on Thursday to an 80 POP with numerous showers and thundershowers.  Friday still has a 50 POP for showers during the day, but should start to clear out and cool off, with high temps in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. And so on with that pattern through the weekend with sunny to partly cloudy skies and high temps in the mid-upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s to lower 50s. A 30 POP for showers looks to return on Sunday.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Monday, May 12, 2014
  •

Monday brought us the muggies as the HIGH pressure moved to our south and east with the return flow on the backside bringing us obnoxiously warm and muggy air all day - highs in the mid 80s, dew points rising into the mid 60s. Then early this evening, just as I was getting home around 7 PM, we had a heavy thundershower that gave me almost an inch of rain in about 1/2 hour. My tipping bucket VP2 gauge must be blocked because it seriously underreported only 0.19" for the storm. The rest of the evening was warm and muggy once again, esp. aided by all that rain water now in the ground and running off and adding moisture to the air. Temps have held in the mid 60s as has the dew point. During the storm the dew point rose into the low 70s, and winds increased greatly. We might get a bit of fog overnight as we bottom out in the mid 60s - also watching a small short wave, perhaps a small MCS, heading this way from NE OH and western PA right now, which if it holds together might give us some rain showers by sunrise. Rain chances continue most of this week, a 40 POP on Tuesday with highs in the mid 80s, lows in the 60s, then mid-upper 70s on Wednesday with a 50 POP, then low 70s on Thursday with a 50 POP during the day, a 90 POP at night, then a 60 POP during the day on Friday, with highs in the 70s and lows dropping into the 50s Friday night as we finally start to clear out. Over the weekend we should be much more pleasant, with partly to mostly sunny skies and high temps in the upper 60s and lows around 50 - drying out nicely.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Tuesday, May 13, 2014
  •
Tuesday brought us more of the muggies with high temps approaching 90 by mid-afternoon, then clouds started building and we had a severe thunderstorm warning in the early evening right after I got home from the office around 7:30. The impressive storm signature on radar was just to my west and I figured I was really going to get dumped on. But I believe a easterly marine flow associated with a weak back door cold front eroded the storm, as it bumped up against that contrasting flow, and just died while overhead. We had some rain, some thunder, some lightning but nothing like I thought I was going to have. Many of the storms in the area stayed in place this evening, but most of them stayed over in Virginia, to my south.  We have cooled off somewhat into the low 60s with dew points in the upper 50s, which is good since our A/C is not working very well. We should see temps by sunrise into the mid-upper 50s with mostly cloudy skies. Clouds should keep up on Wednesday with high temps in the upper 70s, lows in the 50s. Thursday sees highs around 80 and a 40 POP for showers/storms.  Increasing chances for rain on Thursday night (70 POP) and Friday (80 POP), with possibly heavy, flooding rains during the day on Friday. High temps in the low 70s. We should dry out Friday night with lows in the 50s, then over the weekend and into early next week sunny, dry, pleasant weather with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the 40s.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Wednesday, May 14, 2014
  •
Wednesday was cloudy and much cooler, with light fog and occasional drizzle (I only observed it in the morning as I was going to the office) - temps stayed in the low-mid 60s all day after a brief visit to the upper 50s in the very early morning hours of Wednesday. Tonight temps are holding in the mid 60s under cloudy skies. Thursday should be mostly cloudy, a 40 POP for afternoon showers, with high temps around 80.  Rain should start coming in on Thursday evening, probably becoming heavy after midnight (90 POP). We are under a flash flood watch from late Thursday through mid-day Friday. Friday should see rain, heavy at times (100 POP) with numerous showers and storms with heavy downpours possible/likely. High temps should be in the low 70s with the heavy cloud cover. Friday night should see showers early (50 POP) then clearing off and cooling off, with lows in the upper 40s. Over the weekend and through Tuesday of next week sky conditions should be partly to mostly sunny, lower dew point temps, with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s, lows mostly in the 40s to around 50. Over the next few days our potential rainfall is in the 2-4 inch range, we shall see what I actually record out in my backyard.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Thursday, May 15, 2014

Thursday was cloudy but a bit warmer as temps climbed into the muggy upper 70s before the rain came in during the evening hours. Most of the time rain in the warmer months comes in from a westerly component (W, NW, SW) but today the rain was coming up from the south and moving almost straight north. There was a very slow movement to the rain showers to the east, so it took a while for the rain to work in from the west, so close over in Virginia but took a few hours to move only a few miles easterly.  The individual shower and storm cells were moving from the south to the north.  Temps have remained in the mid-upper 60s with dew points just about the same.  Overnight I doubt it will get cooler, temps over the past few hours have actually risen about 0.5°.  Flood watches have remained, but flood warnings have been added in the County warning system, and a general area flood warnng was just posted by NWS.  Rain showers with possible embedded thunderstorms will fall overnight, a near 100 POP, with a few more inches of rain expected for Friday.  Temps will rise into the muggy 70s once again under mostly cloudy skies. We may see some improvement in the afternoon, as the system slowly moves off to the E and NE.  Friday night should see at least partial clearing and cooler and drier temps in the low 50s or possibly upper 40s.  Over the weekend and into early next week we should have sunny to partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s, dew points in the 40s and/or 50s, and lows in the mid 40s to low 50s. So just this rain to get through for the next 12-15 hours and then we should have a really nice spring weekend. Our air conditioning is on the fritz - it actually got plugged and froze the unit, we are waiting for it to thaw before changing the wet filter and possibly adding some refrigerant by our friend Jimmy, the A/C man who installed the current unit a few years back. Luckily the temps have moderated down but unluckily it is still really muggy.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Friday, May 16, 2014
  •

Friday started out very wet, with flooding rains falling overnight, winding down by mid-morning with slow clearing during the afternoon and mostly clear by evening. Started out warm and muggy during the first few hours, then the rains really came down around 4-5 am and the temperature dropped from the upper 60s to the lower 50s by sunrise.  Winds were strong at times also overnight. Flood watches turned to flood warnings, and Friday morning traffic on the way into work was heavy, but luckily my route was not blocked by flooded roads like it was in other parts of the area.  The commuter MARC train that runs from my NW down to work in Silver Spring and then to downtown DC did not run on Friday, as the tracks up to my NW around Point of Rocks MD runs over the Potomac and floods during heavy rains like we had on Friday morning.  Both yesterday's total of 1.06" and today's total of 2.67" eclipsed the old daily record for most rain on those days (old records were 0.93" on Thursday 5/15 and 2.30" on Friday 5/16).  We should have a nice weekend, however, as skies have cleared out for the most part, though there were some scattered light showers around the area but I didn't get anything. Sunny to partly cloudy skies should predominate both Saturday and Sunday, with high temps in the upper 60s to around 70 and lows in the 40s.  Temps in the early morning hours of Saturday have fallen through the 50s and should hit the upper 40s by sunrise.  Early next week should see a continuation of sunny skies and gradually warmer temps into the 70s for highs and 50s for lows. Midweek looks to be the earliest where we could see some showers or storms as we continue to warm up. A/C isn't needed this weekend thankfully, as the unit is in need of a cleaning/dismantling to get it running again, which will be done hopefully sometime this weekend.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Saturday, May 17, 2014
  •

Saturday was a beautiful spring day with lower dew points, mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching the mid 60s for highs after a cooler morning in the 40s, helping to start drying out the area from Friday's flooding rains.  Tonight we are once again falling through the 50s, headed for mins in the mid-upper 40s by sunrise.  Sunday should be another sunny, spectacular day, with high temps in the upper 60s with low dew points (40s to low 50s) once again.  Monday and Tuesday should remain sunny, warming into the 70s for highs and lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. Warming up further on Wednesday with more clouds and humidity, and a 50 POP for showers and storms, lows in the low 60s. Thursday should see partly to mostly sunny skies and a continuation of the warmth with highs in the low 80s.  Sunny and cooling off a bit on Friday with highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s. No A/C repair on Saturday, the latest is that he is coming on Sunday to get it working again.

Sunday was another beautiful spring day with continued low dew points in the 30s and 40s, mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching the mid 60s for highs once again after a slightly cooler morning in the mid 40s.  The area continues to recover from the flooding rains of late Thursday and Friday.  Temperatures tonight are cooler than last night, currently in the upper 40s, and should reach the low 40s by sunrise. Frost advisories are out for the mountain valley areas out to my west in western Maryland parts of West Virginia.  Monday should be sunny and a bit milder, with high temps reaching 70. Lows Monday night in the upper 40s. Sunny again on Tuesday with highs in the mid 70s. Tuesday night through Thursday should see a 40-50 POP for showers and thundershowers as a cold front approaches from the west. High temps in the upper 70s, lows mostly in the 50s.  Friday and into Memorial Day weekend should see partly to mostly sunny skies with highs around 70 on Friday then warming up to 80 by Sunday of the long 3-day holiday weekend, with at this point dry, sunny conditions expected. Stay tuned, though for any possible changes as the holiday weekend draws closer. The A/C was fixed up today, so we should be ready for the warmer, more humid conditions coming in the near future (unfortunately).

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Tuesday, May 20, 2014
  •
Tuesday was a bit warmer and cloudier than the past three days, but still not bad. Another day with lows in the 40s, not bad to get those cool mornings as we get on to late May. Probably will be our last day with 40s mins for a while. Temps reached the mid 70s on Tuesday afternoon. Clouds were particularly on the increase in the PM hours, as a frontal system starts to work closer. Tonight it is cloudy and much milder than it has been as temps have only dropped into the low 60s early this Wednesday morning. There are a few showers out there but nothing here. And radar is indicating that we won't be getting any over night, despite the 50 POP for showers overnight. Might reach the upper 50s for lows by sunrise, more likely just around 60.  Wednesday should see temps reaching the upper 70s, with a 70 POP for showers and storms at times, continuing as a 70 POP on Wednesday evening.  Sunny and warm on Thursday with highs in the low 80s, lows in the 50s, then Friday should be sunny with highs in the low 70s, lows in the 50s, and continuing on that pattern into the weekend. A slow warmup, with high temps probably reaching 80 by Memorial Day Monday with lows in the low 60s. No chance of rain over the long weekend, next chance is a 30 POP for showers/storms on Tuesday, associated with the next frontal system.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Wednesday, May 21, 2014
  •
Wednesday featured a good amount of clouds over sun, with showers filtering through the region, but mostly to the N and E, missing my station in the morning and early afternoon to the Northeast as a result. This evening there was some severe weather around, but well to the south, we only had a few sprinkles. High temperatures were around the same mid 70s as yesterday, but the evening was warmer in the upper 50s. Tonight we are falling slowly through the 60s, about the same as last night, with clouds hanging around. We probably will be around 60 or maybe upper 50s by sunrise. Thursday should see partly cloudy skies, highs in the low 80s, a slight chance for showers/storms (20 POP) then on Friday a 30 POP for showers, a bit cooler in the low 70s, lows in the low 50s. Over the Memorial Day weekend sun should predominate, with highs in the low 70s on Saturday rising into the low 80s by Memorial Day Monday, with lows in the upper 40s or low 50s on Saturday rising through the 50s by Monday.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Thursday, May 22, 2014
  •

Thursday featured clouds overnight and a short but sweet thunderstorm around 0530 early this morning that didn't even wake me - pretty good downpour for about 15 minutes. And that was all the rain I received for the day, despite watches and warnings in the mid to late afternoon. Storms missed to the north and east again, hammering parts of the Baltimore are and the Eastern Shore.  Temps reached into the 80s under some sun at times and humid 60s dew points. Drying out and cooling off this evening, temps have dropped into the 60s early this Friday morning under beautiful clear skies. Temps will be cooler on Friday with partly cloudy skies and a slight chance at a shower (20 POP) in the afternoon, highs in the low 70s. Lows Friday night into the upper 40s to low 50s, then on Saturday sunny once again with highs in the 70s. Sunny and warmer the rest of the Memorial Day weekend, with highs both days in the low 80s but still not too humid. The workweek should be warm and more summerlike, with highs in the 80s and a 30 POP for showers/storms from Tuesday through Thursday. Lows mostly in the upper 50s to low 60s.

I learned today that if you access my PWS data on the weather underground dashboard that you will get a UV index reading, even though I don't have a UV sensor. Weather Underground told me that with stations that don't have UV data their software will automatically add the UV value from the nearest airport. I then wrote them to find out which of the closeby airports is being used as my UV index data source. Still waiting for the answer to that one.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Saturday, May 24, 2014
  •

Saturday featured lots of sun and fair weather cumulus at times, with a few showers showing on radar up in PA in the early evening moving south into Maryland but alas no showers here at my station.  Temperatures were pretty similar to Friday's, a bit lower on the mins, a bit higher on the max temp.  Dew points ranged very similarly with Friday's values. Tonight temperatures have fallen through the 60s and are now in the upper 50s. We should bottom out around 55° by sunrise. Tomorrow should be sunny and a tad warmer, probably reaching the 80° mark or very close to that mark.  Lows Sunday night should be in the upper 50s to around 60 under more clear skies. Memorial Day Monday should be sunny and warmer, with high temps in the mid 80s, dew point temps creeping up into the 60s most likely. Lows Monday night in the low-mid 60s under partly cloudy skies. Tuesday and Wednesday will probably feature more clouds than sun, as we have a 50 POP for showers/storms on Tuesday with highs in the low 80s and a 40 POP for showers/storms on Wednesday with high temps in the 70s and lows in the 50s. Thursday should be nicer, with partly cloudy skies and high temps in the low 70s. A 30 POP for showers returns on Friday with highs in the upper 70s, lows around 60. Then we head into June next weekend with predictable warm and more humid conditions coming in the first few days of the new month.

Lows in the 60s the next two nights, with continued showers on both nights. Cooler temps and drying out a bit on Thursday and Friday, but still a 40 POP for showers/storms on Thursday, with high temps running 70-75°. Partly to mostly sunny skies over the weekend with highs in the upper 70s and little chance for rain. Chances increase to a 30 POP on Monday with warmer temps into the low 80s. Lows over the weekend should be in the 50s.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Tuesday, May 27, 2014
  •

Back to work Tuesday was partly sunny, very warm, and more humid - I even went over the 70° dew point briefly during the late afternoon/early evening when the exciting weather of the day was occurring.  Storms were brewing over PA early, and moved S and E over our region in the mid-late afternoon and early evening.  Severe Thunderstorm Watches, then warnings went up.  My intense storm hit right after 1800, when I was just leaving work. It was really raining down in Silver Spring, and according to my data logger, it was also doing so here in my backyard. We were out of power for about 3 hours, from about 6 pm to 9 pm roughly. The max rain rate of 16.94" at 6:12 was at the very beginning of the precip with 1.50" of precipitation collecting in the VP2 gauge between 6:10 and 6:25.  I had quite an adventure on the ride home.  Heavy rain during the first half of the trip slowed traffic to a crawl in several spots, then as I approached the ramp to get off of I-270, backups once again, due to traffic lights on Clopper Road being out. Then into my neighborhood eventually and more stopped traffic, where I normally do not experience it.  Large branches and small trees had toppled in the high winds (estimated to be around 50 MPH) and heavy rain, and were blocking the roadway. Neighbors took to their saws and cleared a path for cars amidst the branch and leaf litter. Then I finally got home to of course, no power.  The rain had tailed off and we had a muggy evening with temps and dew points in the 60s. In the early morning hours of Wednesday, those conditions have persisted.  Wednesday should see another round ofshowers/storms (70 POP), with high temps once again in the 80s, but starting to cool off late. More showers Wednesday night with lows in the upper 50s. Thursday the front is through, morning showers possible (60 POP) with high temps only in the mid-upper 60s. Clearing off Thursday night with lows in the low 50s or upper 40s. Friday through the weekend should be partly to mostly sunny, with high temps in the mid-upper 70s and lows in the low-mid 50s. And that will bridge us into the beginning of June on Sunday.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Wednesday, May 28, 2014
  •

Wednesday was recovery day from the big storms of Tuesday evening, workers were seen clearing up tree debris in my neighborhood as I headed into the office in the morning. We had a warm, humid day, dew points mostly remained in the 60s but did briefly reach into the low 70s for a time in the afternoon/early evening.  The high temperature for the day was reached earlier than usual, as we had a "back-door" cold front pass through in the evening, with temps dropping through the 70s and 60s in the evening and then into the upper 50s early this Thursday morning.  Temps should remain in the 50s overnight and then on Thursday the temps may not get out of the upper 50s with cloudy, damp, cool skies and a 100 POP for light showers/drizzle. A real nice day - one I wish I could save for mid-July. Clearing off slowly Thursday night and Friday, but still with a 60 POP for showers on Thursday night and into early Friday with temps in the 50s/upper 40s for lows and 70s for high temps. The weekend looks like a slow warm up through the 70s through Sunday, lows mostly in the 50s. Sunny and warmer on Monday with highs in the 80s, then a 40-50 POP for showers/storms on Tuesday and Wednesday, highs around 80 and lows around 60 as we bridge into the new month of June, my most depressing month since it means three months of yeuchy summer heat and humidity.

Gaithersburg Maryland VP2 backyard weather station report for Thursday, May 29, 2014
  •

Thursday was a full day under an easterly marine flow with low clouds, light rain, drizzle, fog and much cooler temperatures.  The maximum temperature for the day was reached at the very beginning of the day at midnight, then only got up to 57.1° in the late afternoon for my "PM Max". This evening the flow continues, with very light rain/drizzle at obs and right now, temps remaining in the 50s. We should stay pretty steady overnight with the temperatures in the mid 50s, then on Friday gradually clear out and warm up a bit to around 70 still with mostly cloudy skies by the afternoon. Friday night should start to clear out with temps holding in the 50s. Over the weekend mostly sunny skies with high temps in the mid-upper 70s, lows in the 50s. Sunny on Monday with highs in the low 80s, then mid 80s and more muggy the rest of the week, with 40-50 POPs for afternoon/evening showers and storms, more typical of summer, as we start getting into the month of June. Lows next week will probably be in the 60s.
