I knew this had to be warmest winter ever for us down here in Norfolk Va. area in my life time. Only 1990 would be close, but think this one beats it out. Damn ! It didn't even get cold at all this year. I work outside everyday as a master plumber on new construction and I don't remember seeing anything like this . Ever !

Grothar of Herdon,

Yes you are right this winter is 3rd warmest on record. Funny thing is when I look at the old winter anologs following these 2 other warm winters was above average snow. 1890-1891 winter was 37.1"in and 1932-1933 winter was 23.8"in. I wonder will we follow above average snowfall for winter 2012-2013? Time will only tell!

I noted possible analogs with those two seasons with regard to March temperatures on this thread: http://www.americanw...-in-dc-history. However, it is now obvious that March 2012 temperatures in DC will differ drastically from March 1890 and March 1932 temperatures. March 1890 averaged 41.4 degrees and March 1932 averaged 40.0 degrees. March 2012 appears headed for upwards of 50 degrees. So, that possible analog busted big-time.

RodneyS,

March is defiantly a bust for those analogs. Personally it seems like we are skipping March and going into April. Having a terrible winter this year only makes winter 2012-2013 in the coming months down the road a very hot topic for all. Especially if we are heading into a weak-moderate El Nino!
