  1. Yeah I did some shovelling right before it changed to rain here and was reminded how dense and heavy sleet is, lol.
  2. Crazy (and fun) to play in no doubt. We had to take a family member to the airport for a 5 pm flight - took 2 hours to get there, fortunately the back roads weren't jammed up.
  3. Oh yeah, it was awesome. Also the day I joined this forum!
  4. I give them credit for making the effort to do the research and put the thought into it that they do, and I appreciate it. Kind of early to say how the winter will turn out. I'm sure they like snow and a good storm as much as you and I and many others who post here. I like the way things look, but the weather can sure humble you if you get cocky.
  5. That might be a little harsh, imo. More of a group responsibility - there are probably people out there who shouldn't drive in snow, which doesn't help. The snow came down hard and with the latent ground heat melting the bottom layer with all that compression on top, you get effectively a sheet of ice. December 8th 2013 was a lot like this storm - 1st snow of the season, came down hard, forecast was underdone, and people in general were unprepared. With all the cars on the road and gridlocked it's hard for plows and salt trucks to make a difference. If you read people like HM on Twitter you might have been aware of the potential for heavy snow in the mid day to afternoon, but even with that, it's just potential, it's the weather. So I can imagine PennDOT might have been under prepared, but so were many others, and even then I'm not sure how you overcome 2" an hour rates with roads packed with traffic in the middle of the day. Glad you made it home okay!
  6. 33 here now, with light snow, probably will wind down soon. Very windy indeed! Nice to see more snow, even if it isn't sticking.
  7. Rain showers here have changed over to snow, 34F. Gusty west winds.
  8. It seems to be bringing up more moisture from the south now.
  9. I've got blowing and drifting leaves now on top of the crusty snow, lol.
  10. And the snow turned into rain...waahh. But we did get 4.6" of snow and sleet, hopefully it won't get too abused tonight. Awesome early overperformer! Currently 30.9F with light freezing rain. Bamboo forest is starting to get bendy.
  11. Lol, happened to us with one of those 8'x10' tents a couple of years ago, we went away for a couple of days and had a surprise 2" tstorm while we were gone, came home to find it collapsed. Pretty much unsalvageable.
  12. Settled into a mix of light snow and fine sleet here, temp has crept up to 28.9F.
  13. Lol here we now have leaves on top of the snow, the wind shook a bunch of sweet gum leaves loose.
  14. Pretty much the same here. Measured 4.2", not sure what's next, radar is thinning out to the south. 28.4F currently. Fwiw traffic cleared up a bit.
  15. Still heavy here but some sleet mixing in now. Wind is picking up a bit. 28.2F, DP 25. 3.5" so far.
  16. Howdy neighbor! Yes it has been a parking lot, although it's moving slowly now.
  17. Seems like a long time ago, even though it's only been 2 weeks or so. Things changed fast this fall, didn't they!
  18. So do I....like you said earlier, enjoy every flake, and bonus flakes are always a pleasure.
  19. Yeah, my point and click said an inch or less. I don't mind, lol. Just measured 2.6". It's hard to see, but in this pic there is the beginnings of a November snow pile . Leaves included!
  20. Just measured 2.3", beautiful outside. Temp is down to 28.6F
  21. Yep what you're pointing at is heavy snow (love that phrase). Temperature is now 29.3, DP up to 25. Over 1.5" here. Put a bunch of summer tools away yesterday and neglected to get out the snow shovels, which I just did :-). Roads must be getting icy, cars are lined up going down the hill on our street.
  22. Yeah man! It's settled into a nice moderate plus snow here now, finer flakes, mid winterish style. Still 29.8F.
