2013-14 is a very underrated winter. It doesn’t get mentioned like 1995-96 or 2009-10, probably because there were no blockbuster storms.

But it’s one of the few wall to wall, cold and snowy winters we had from start to finish I can recall. I’ll take a repeat anytime Mother Nature feels inclined

I agree. The Eagles snow bowl on December 8th set the tone nicely.

Hey everyone!  I'm really proud of this and wanted to share it with you all as members across this forum have been instrumental in the growth of my passion for, and knowledge of, weather.

I wrote an article for TheInertia.com about a picture I took following the January 29th, 2022 snowstorm that hit our region.  For many in PA, this wasn't a very great event, maybe 4-6 inches, but for those along the central shores of New Jersey, it was a different story.  Thanks to some of the reports on this site, I made the call to drive down to LBI for sunrise and captured a bunch of really great shots of the snow along with the remaining swell in the water.  I submitted some of the shots from this prolific morning of photography to theinertia.com's annual surf photo contest.  They reached out to me on instagram and asked me to send a few sentences over about a particular shot.  Since "I have an unhealthy obsession with snow and waves", I sent them over 1,500 words.

Below is a satellite image from the day I took the picture, displaying the cold offshore flow and clear conditions following the system.

Nice, good job! Also, sometimes having weather as a hobby yields practical benefits :- ).

Line picking up a little steam to the SW...

Yes indeed. Snuck in here pretty quickly! Might get some wind with it. Only had stronger breezes here for a little while this afternoon, but I heard that sound of strong wind blowing through leafless trees for the first time this fall. A different kind of roar, I like it, although it's easier on the skin when its 68 degrees out.

    I went ghetto...

Believe it or not you pay more for sewage than for the water itself. If you're a weather/radar nut, plan ahead and let mother nature pay for rinsing/sewage expense. First round rinsed well. And with another rinsing line forming after midnight to the W swinging east I may wash again along w/free rinsing, maybe some boomers/wind as a added bonus. I'll have the cleanest GD car in town.....hands down!

     69F/ DP 67F at 10:25pm...nice breeze.

Not in the forecast, but some hail would be a nice touch as well.

Hey guys I want to go out riding mt MT bike tomorrow with temps being awesome for November, but I hate riding in windy conditions.

Do you think the windy conditions might die down if I go out around noon?

Your going out at noon might have a calming effect on the wind, but it might work better  later. Mt. Holly says this in their forecast discussion:

Winds will still be gusty in
the morning out of the west, perhaps over 30 mph at times early, but will gradually wind down through the afternoon

Praying for a dry week this week. My dad and I tore our roof off... we found a bunch of rot in the deck that had to be patched. We weren't able to get it all finished and tar papered before we ran out of daylight yesterday. Hopefully we can get the patching done tonight and get the tar paper on tomorrow.

You should be good through Wednesday. Shorter days make it tough... Good luck!

Perfect way to end a drought.  3-7 inches of rain over a 5 day period.  That amount over a day could have been bad for some areas.

Yeah, not how we normally get that amount of rain. We have a well, and we had also seeded some areas recently, so having most of it soak in was ideal!

Been poking around all other regions, but did any of you guys hear or see any non-coastal flooding (street/stream/creek) over the last several days?

Not west of Philly at any rate. Sunday was the heaviest rain, about 2.5 inches here, but mostly there wasn't a whole lot of runoff, a very user friendly 4.75" total here over 6 days.

I'm wondering what our record low max is - have been trying to dig around for it.

If this setup had occurred in February, we would have been buried. It would have been "Tug Hill Plateau South" territory.  :o

Ironically 3 years ago around this time, Philly hit 95 (Oct. 2) - https://www.inquirer.com/weather/philadelphia-weather-record-heat-autumn-rain-20191002.html

It's currently misty and 45 with dp 44.  I finished up with 0.69" of rain yesterday and with the 0.24" that I have received since midnight, I am now at 4.52" for the event (since last Friday).   Doing  a 10:1 ratio on that is scary.

They had a list of record low maxes for the area in Mt. Holly's forecast discussion yesterday and again today. Yesterday was 52 at PHL and today is 55. Decent chance it seems of breaking today's record, not sure how yesterday turned out.

  10. Up to 4.55" here for the event, about a half an inch since midnight. Just looked at the 12z GFS run, and after tomorrow it's pretty much dry to the end of its run (Oct. 20th). FWIW of course, and likely to change.

It will be nice to dry out, and especially to see the sun. I have vague memories of it, lol.

I'm with ya, but yeah, we need the rain and these multi-day soakers are the best way to get it.

1.07" of rain on the day.  Puts the Ian total thus far at 2.33".

Just crossed the 2 inch mark here, 1.05" Friday night and Saturday morning, and 1.03" today, making a 2.08" total so far. Coming down at a decent clip, 1/4" in the last half hour.

0z euro keeps Ian around with raw northeast wind and rain through Wednesday, 6 days lol

Ian the Overperformer... I'm not usually a fan of days of rain and gloom, but rain hasn't been that easy to come by, so I'm seeing it as a good thing. Also looking forward to seeing the sun again, maybe Wednesday?

Saw the exact same thing this evening.  Called it an "Ian sunset" where a few of the separated furthest north bands were even visible from my vantage point!

Was surprised, although perhaps shouldn't have been, that my high only got up to 66 today.  The dp was also dry enough to start generating the "winter like" static electricity walking across the carpet here.. LOL

    It's currently 59 with dp 47.

Better than steamy windows for sure, lol. Although the humidifiers will need to be pressed into service sometime in the next couple of months.

Rain has mostly blown through now and just have some mist/drizzle.  Picked up a welcome 0.41" from that round.  Currently 61 with dp 60.

Heard a KYW/CBS radio report talking about the drought (around the country) and how "Clover is the new lawn'".   Don't really have to mow it (much) and you get your green plus you get the pollinators!

Yeah I've seen a lot of clover the last couple of years, but I'm still going for grass, lol.
