  1. Fortunately I think most of us have come into this wither with low expectations. One winter that's been in the back of my mind is 1998-99. It was also a Nina, but other than that I don't know if there are other similarities to this year. 98-99 certainly wasn't a memorable winter, but not a shut out either. We had a few weeks of winter that year where we got nickeled & dimed. I think our "biggest" event was in March.
  2. Welcome back! You probably got more rain out in the Mojave than we did in our drought-stricken region
  3. Record breaking drought? They better issue water restrictions ASAP! Actually feels like December out there today, 34F.
  4. Only .10” here, 38F. Don’t know what I enjoy more, digital snow or digital blocks?
  5. Only got down to 49F here overnight. Funny how no one says, "What happens in December, the winter will remember" when it's mild & dry.
  6. Nothing like the day after a mid-December cold front passage, my temp struggled to reach a high of 50F And sign me up Ralph, I believe in Festivus miracles!
  7. That was quick, pretty much over with here. Just your typical squall line -- gusty winds and a 15-minute downpour. However I do hear sirens, so something in the neighborhood happened.
  8. It's on my doorstep, winds starting to gust.
  9. For now all we want is for it to move up in time. No can kicking please!
  10. In our new climate era, someone needs to write a Christmas carol about tornados. 38F
  11. What's with his fascination with size??
  12. But is does have to do with local weather, at least for me it does. Most weather systems approach from the west, south or southwest. If a line of severe storms is approaching, I like to read obs from RedSky, CoolHandMike, MattinPA to get an idea of what's headed my way. If the line fizzles, I can lament with Birds since we only live a few miles apart. If it's a winter storm, I like hearing from Kamu, Agnes or Kevin Reilly to get an idea of how long the virga may last or how quickly the changeover line is approaching. In this sense, weather obs from the NYC forum are of little value to me -- these systems have already moved through my backyard. And as we say around here, this is very much a backyard sport. Anyway, you know my views and I know yours. As Agnes said, ultimately it's up the the administrators here how they want to run their site.
  13. Hey gang, I was just in the NYC forum. Apparently some posters in CT are seeing flakes...in case anyone down here in the Philly burbs has any interest in what's happening in CT.
  14. No Great Lakes low, something resembling a Miller A—is that map even a meteorological possibility??
  15. I was just outside doing some raking, still nada. 33F
  16. Yes, why should we be punished and have OUR forum taken away because a bunch of our members left years ago to create their own wx site. Why is that our fault?? Because not enough of us have remained (and donate annually) we should have our forum closed?? Cancel culture!!
  17. The virga is having a tough time pushing east. At least cloud cover has over performed, 31F.
  18. Agnes!! I've lowered my bar to seeing high cirrus off to my southeast tomorrow.
  19. And judging the quality of a forum based on it's member size is a dreadful measure of a forum's value to those members who post here. And what information do you have access to that confirms the 63% in the poll above who don't want to merge are the vocal minority and NOT the vocal majority?? Look, you live in central Jersey, it's not a stretch for you to post in the NYC forum. But I don't see how the weather on Long Island, Newark, or Manhattan is of any interest to those of us posting from Reading, Wilmington, Cape May, Brandywine, etc. And if 100 miles isn't that much of a difference, then merger NYC with the SNE forum and merge us with the Mid Atlantic, Two big forums with lots of members so everyone is happy
  20. Seems to be our pattern since Ida. Storms modeled in the medium to long range go poof. Remember the week before Thanksgiving there was talk of a disruptive east coast storm for the holiday? Nope. We're going to need patience this year. We do that well
  21. Yep, my bar is set at mood flakes. Anything that whitens the ground is a bonus.
  22. It’s early December, we take! Thanks, Ralph. Meanwhile, it feels like a March day out there, 54F.
