  1. I get the concern... but how big does a dogwood get? My house is directly in the sun... I’m basically looking to blunt the sun hitting the house directly... I’m open to all kinds of suggestions.... within reason as far as prices go.
  2. So attached is a picture my neighbor took during the storm a few nights ago. My house is on the far right of the pic. Where I highlighted yellow is roughly where I’d like the tree to go. Distances are tough to judge... but it’s about 20 feet in all directions from the road, we’ll head, and house. Water mine from well runs near the area about 10-12 feet underground, but not directly where tree would be. It would be the only large tree in the area.
  3. Tulip poplar looks like a gorgeous tree. Seems to be fast growing and can grow pretty big.
  4. I’ll probably be long gone by the time it reaches mature height to do damage . But in all seriousness, I’m really open to anything that can get somewhat big and won’t search out water. ive been told to stay away from willows like you mentioned... but most folks I talk to say plant really anything else as close as you want to the well... just leave access for maintenance. I like to be a little more conscious than that, and probably wouldn’t plant a tree 2 feet away... but I’ve seen plenty of wells among a lot of really good sized trees.
  5. So I’m looking to buy a northern red oak.... my front yard has only flowering pear trees... which seem to have a cap in growth and grow pretty narrow. the neighborhood doesn’t have many trees and I’d like to plant something out front that can get pretty big and offer some shade and cover to the house. Whats the root system like? My idea planting spot is about 20 feet from road... 25 feet from house... and about 25 feet away from my well head. Should I be okay there?
  6. Droughtstein to floodstein...... Bob makes up for lost time
  7. Yeah it’s fizzling out..... .56” on the day... even if it’s only sprinkles and light showers for a few more hours I’ll take it.
  8. .56” here ... as far as I know, Bob did not get any rain at all
  9. That strip of rain is slowing sinking towards this area.
  10. Norwood and Canton area getting crushed this weekend.
  11. Some decent thunder and some wind.... .0.51” of rain so far
  12. Yeah... they were tough to read today because they were soaked and standing water on some. I actually played pretty well on Oumet. We will be back to use our rain check
  13. Looks like .31”.... id categorize that as somewhere between “barely enough to wet the grass” and “half decent drink”.
  14. Crosswinds in Plymouth was in tremendous shape... we only played 9 holes because of rain... but really nice layout. Rain check for 9 holes in the future
  15. 44 going through Middleboro coming back from golfing in Plymouth was a disaster. Trees down everywhere.:. Multiple accidents... power out
  16. Was playing crosswinds in Plymouth... poured at 2... played through it... they pulled us off the course this time though.
  17. Makes sense.... it hurts someone making 50k a lot more than someone making 150k to not get a raise.
  18. Yeah... the idea was brought up about having the top 10% of earners take a 5% pay cut instead of taking raises away from all the lower level folks. As you can imagine, that was quickly met with a lot of backlash. Call me crazy, but I think it makes more sense to ask your big earners (likely 150k+) a year to take a cut instead of asking guys making 50-60k a year to not get a raise.
  19. We were asked to give up our contractually obligated raises this year. Since I am in a union, it had to be voted on. The overwhelming majority voted to forgo raises to help make up budget shortfalls and hopefully prevent layoffs. From the second we voted to give it back, we’ve regretted it. Working guys to the bone, unrealistic expectations on a skeleton crew, etc etc. No good deed goes unpunished.
  20. Working from home has largely been a joke for many people, especially those that weren’t doing it in any capacity before the pandemic. If we currently go to a hotspot we are to quarantine on our own PTO when we return, since we can’t work from home. Folks who can will just work from home. sucks
  21. I suppose anything is possible, but the lines in our neighborhood are all buried. The box is on the edge of my property and the line is buried under the driveway and comes up next to the electric meter on the other side of the driveway.... probably 30-40 feet away. The tech today replaced the “filter” In the box, whatever that is. Ran all new line from the box to the house... grounded the cable wire... boxes up all the connections on the outside of the house... and added a “booster” inside the house. Im a little annoyed that the previous 4 visits didn’t reveal any of these problems, which this tech said were “pretty clear” I know I’ll probably be out of luck, but I’m going to fight them tooth and nail for some sort of refund. Absolutely crazy.
  22. I mowed today for the first time in like nearly 4 weeks. Weeds were getting high
  23. We moved into this house (new) 18 months ago. Our cable and WiFi has been dog shit since we had it hooked up by x-finity. They’ve been out 5 times in that span and can never figure out the issue. Today... a “senior tech” came out and basically had to re do everything, including replacing wires from the box at the road and all the way into the house. The cable wire wasn’t even grounded!!! I’m beyond frustrated.... I want some sort of refund for the last 18 months.. absolutely crazy that none of this stuff was noticed or fixed right off the bat.
