  1. Will that stuff around Long Island make it here?
  2. How is the rainfall forecast that bad for today? I mean, we probably will end up with nothing.
  3. Yup... hopefully fill those wells in northern CT. Looks like we may escape the day without any rain here. If we aren’t going to get decent rains, I’d punt on the nuisance stuff.
  4. Looks like the bulk of the rain is going to miss this area.
  5. Me thinks tomorrow is going to disappoint in the rain department.
  6. Are we talking decent rains here Saturday or more isolated crap? Could use a nice soaking.
  7. Raining at work and based on radar... raining at home. Rain is zooming though... that should limit totals. Would be nice to get a nice prolonged soaking.
  8. Phone forecast would leave you to believe today is going to be a washout.... I don’t see that?
  9. So my wife loves the eventual look of maple trees. So we’ve decided to go either sunset maple or autumn blaze red maple... both get about 40 feet tall and about 30 feet wide...probably a better size for our application than a tulip polar or something that can get twice the height. Those maples will have no issues with water lines or anything like that I’d assume?
  10. What about a cardinal red maple? Or a wildfire black gum tree?
  11. I’ll take a peek at dogwoods. Thanks. This area would be full sun pretty much so I have to keep that in mind. Id be open to something that maybe got 20-30 feet tall if it gave off some good shade.
  12. https://www.fast-growing-trees.com/products/hybridpoplar?variant=13940790624308 how about this? Doesn’t get as big as a tulip poplar and seems to have a more controlled canopy.
  13. The small ones I already have there are flowering pears. They are all along the street and look nice but are kind of meh size and don’t offer much shade or coverage. I think a nice big tree would kind of stand out.
  14. I get the concern... but how big does a dogwood get? My house is directly in the sun... I’m basically looking to blunt the sun hitting the house directly... I’m open to all kinds of suggestions.... within reason as far as prices go.
  15. So attached is a picture my neighbor took during the storm a few nights ago. My house is on the far right of the pic. Where I highlighted yellow is roughly where I’d like the tree to go. Distances are tough to judge... but it’s about 20 feet in all directions from the road, we’ll head, and house. Water mine from well runs near the area about 10-12 feet underground, but not directly where tree would be. It would be the only large tree in the area.
  16. Tulip poplar looks like a gorgeous tree. Seems to be fast growing and can grow pretty big.
  17. I’ll probably be long gone by the time it reaches mature height to do damage . But in all seriousness, I’m really open to anything that can get somewhat big and won’t search out water. ive been told to stay away from willows like you mentioned... but most folks I talk to say plant really anything else as close as you want to the well... just leave access for maintenance. I like to be a little more conscious than that, and probably wouldn’t plant a tree 2 feet away... but I’ve seen plenty of wells among a lot of really good sized trees.
  18. So I’m looking to buy a northern red oak.... my front yard has only flowering pear trees... which seem to have a cap in growth and grow pretty narrow. the neighborhood doesn’t have many trees and I’d like to plant something out front that can get pretty big and offer some shade and cover to the house. Whats the root system like? My idea planting spot is about 20 feet from road... 25 feet from house... and about 25 feet away from my well head. Should I be okay there?
  19. Droughtstein to floodstein...... Bob makes up for lost time
  20. Yeah it’s fizzling out..... .56” on the day... even if it’s only sprinkles and light showers for a few more hours I’ll take it.
  21. .56” here ... as far as I know, Bob did not get any rain at all
