  1. I’m genuinely not sure why guidance has depicted rain for majority of the NYE event? Sure airmass is stale but supportive of frozen precip down to 925mb with the exception of the first few hours. Low placement seems ideal
  2. Going to be a lot of back and forth with a system this far out. Euro ensembles have a good mix out major hits. Potential is there
  3. Jan 5-7 could be interesting to track if nothing else
  4. Year of endless lake effect. Erie I think has gotten more than the past 2 years combined?
  5. Can’t underestimate solid rates and early winter sun angle, even in the furnace that is downtown. Roads are clear now but earlier today I hadn’t seen Wacker this bad in years
  6. Out of curiosity, what was the latest subfreezing low temperature for Chicago?
  7. I didn’t realize the scale of the streak in the 1870s and 1880s. Is measurement error a possible blame there?
  8. we should still get warmest or near there I imagine
  9. Gotta think we make a run for top 3 in both warmest and least snowy categories.
  10. Easily redeeming part of this winter was going to Michigan City for the NE Indiana lake effect event. Glad I did it
  11. I think this is one of the first times I’ve seen them unable to groom trails in the UP. I’m headed to the Tug Hill this weekend for some fun but even there riding is very limited
  12. Maybe the lake will warm up and we can deal with those fun problems again later in the month
  13. Sidewalks and side roads are awful. Ironically they are the only thing with ice accumulation since I guess the surface of things like tree branches and parking signs and cars not sustained cold enough. However in my opinion makes it more dangerous. Very rare to see it like this here
  14. It’s really bad out. Side streets and sidewalks totally iced over. Could barely walk the dog. If this continues overnight it’s going to be really dangerous for tomorrow morning commute and I don’t think people really get it
  15. Sidewalks very slick downtown. Can only imagine what it’s like at home
  16. Had moderate snow when I left Wicker this morning that was beginning to accumulate on untreated surfaces. At the office appears to be light freezing drizzle and sleet
  17. It’s always challenging to accumulate ice in the metro but given how cold it’s been and with the immediate lakeshore freezing, I could see 0.1-0.3” accumulating. Tuesday morning commute could be rough
  18. Looks awful through 1st week of Feb. Euro gets 40-50 degree temps into northern Alberta
  19. Back in Chicago now unfortunately. There looked to be 8-12” in Pines area when we drove back on Route 20. Props to the town of Michigan City for getting roads passable. A storm like this when growing up in northern New Jersey would have shut everything down for 48 hours
