  1. So essentially they are calling for normal to below normal cold for much of the country. I did not realize JB has a side gig.
  2. I never said I trusted the FA forecast. All I said was that I am assuming the FA thinks the AO/NAO is going to remain strongly positive. Right now based on what is happening, and what has happened for the last several months, and the forecast for the both the short term and long term, would you bet on cold and snowy or mild conditions for the winter?
  3. I'm assuming they are expecting the AO/NAO to stay strongly positive.
  4. Or you can plant different flowers each year to change the look of it. Another idea is to make it a "seasonal" area. In other words during the fall have it have a fall theme, during Christmas have it be xmas theme. Actually the area looks like an ideal spot to have a "haunted graveyard" during the Halloween season.
  5. A master craftsman is the best bet to do that type of wall BUT the trick is finding one. Near impossible now days in the world of quick buck contractors. I was referring to "items" such as different types of plants/flowers, rocks, and wall kits. YouTube is a great source for project ideas.
  6. I'd keep the tree. Have you consider using a combination of plants that do not require a lot of water along with rocks and/or mulch. They are pushing the wall because they are going to make a boatload of money off of the wall. Home Depot sells outdoor wall kits. I'm not sure if they would work for you in that area. There is a lot you can do that will not set you back thousands. Have fun and experiment a bit.
  7. That may possibly happen. I'd probably start by using a tiller to turn over the soil. And then add topsoil. And then overseed the area. Provided of course I wanted to have grass growing in that area. I'm not a big fan of hydroseeding. I know people who have hydroseeded their lawns and at first it looked great but over time(within a year) the lawns began to have issues
  8. Hi, Is the $2800 estimate for loam just for that area of your lawn? The area has potential to say the least. There is a lot that can be done with that area. Have you considered doing the project yourself? Home Depot and Lowes both sell plenty of items that would work in that area to make it look better. YouTube is a great resource for getting idea for home and garden projects.
  9. I agree with you on the ridge not being as strong as in 14-15. Considering the state of affairs in the northern hemisphere and with the developing El Nino, a -NAO is a must for this upcoming winter.
  10. JB has posted his winter outlook and once again he is calling for a cold and snowy winter in the east. Although he does seem to be leaning towards a "warm" Dec. I find his temp outlook map for the winter to be suspect.
  11. Thank you for the information. The Grazulis book on Amazon has a price range of $312-$3215.
  12. In a limited search online it seems as if the 1991 Georgetown tornado was the last to hit Essex County. Everyone defines the MV area differently. I would include it as being part of the MV area. According to the Tornado Project Online(data from 1950-2012) the last tornado in Essex County prior to 1991 occurred in 1972. Originally I was planning to compile a list of tornadoes that have hit the MV area but I now want to come up with a list of tornadoes that have been reported in Essex County. The 1890 tornado that hit Lawrence has always intrigued me because it hit an area that I am quite familiar with. According to what I have read the tornado first touched down in Fisksdale and then lifted off the ground before hitting Billerica, then lifting off once more before hitting Lawrence. The funnel cloud was last observed over Newburyport but it did not touch down there.
  13. Have you come across any video showing the tornado? From everything I've read it was rain wrapped.
  14. If my memory is serving me well I think the Merrimack Valley in Ma. area has gone at least 20 years without a tornado.
  15. So you deny writing this??????
  16. A couple of weeks ago JB hinted about a late starting winter. I do think the current overall pattern is going to be difficult to eradicate.
  17. Check with your city/town first. Some towns do not allow artificial grass to be installed at a residential home. About 15 or so years ago I worked with someone who wanted to install artificial turf and he was not allowed to do so by the town he lived in. I do not recall the town he was living in at the time.
  18. Ray, I do think there is a good chance of a moderate El Nino. Hopefully it doesn't evolve into a strong one.
  19. So at this point in time where do you think the storm could potentially track? Do you have any thoughts on the Atlantic hurricane season?
  20. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you are correct.
  21. Once again you resort to some form of name calling by using "she" in reference to me. It goes hand in hand with you referring to other people on the forum as being sick or freaks when they do not agree with your warped views regarding the weather. It's pretty typical for someone who is in jr high but not typical for an adult. Now please provide any links to any mets who have compared 2017 to 1816. If such links even existed you would have long ago provided them.
  22. He has an insatiable desire to be right 100 percent of the time.
  23. Can't be!!.....I don't believe it. The GOD of all weather has proclaimed it as a miss to the right. Perhaps it's a Tanaka storm??.....similar to missing in the strike zone and allowing 3 HR's????
