    I'm not a fan of comparing current temps to the averages during the past 30 years. The comparison should be made over the entire data set for a location. Have you read the 2 volume set Early American Wnters?

    Depending on the winter there can be a sharp gradient across the area. Haverhill is a very large city, nearly 36 square miles and it is the largest city in Essex county. The central part and NW parts of Haverhill are best for snow. The area closer to North Andover is more prone to mixing and/or changing to plain rain.

    The only thing that I can think of is he is thinking the effects will be of a cat 2 at the surface despite the the official cat rating.

    JB and Cranky are in different camps. JB thinks a cat 4 is possible. Cranky thinks the potential is capped and will remain a Cat 2.
