Thats right, chumps.  I'm starting the storm thread before the euro.  This will bring it to us because starting threads always works.  Weather listens to threads that get started.

Since we're doing our best to jinx the storm I put the blade on the muck truck and am charging it up. 98debe39f3363f2c66535ab9f220c9ca.jpg

This may actually work. A preemptive thread to cause a model to change course. I like it.

Well, I took down half the outdoor Christmas lights this morning, been leaving them up because wife (CA girl) wanted to see the lights in snow. We DID get almost an inch the other day, and it was pretty. I'm SURE we'll get 10 inches now that they are down lol.

We didn’t have any big snows outside of Snowzilla in ‘16, but I do have a couple inches in my records from Feb 15 (looks like it stuck to all surfaces) and several snow showers/icing events. I was living in Bethesda at the time, so there might have been more further nw.

Wasn't the 15/16 season one storm?

Warm Rain, 40 inches of snow. Warm Rain.

Not that one should complain about that, but I'd have preferred it spread out.

Granted 15/16 got off to a slower start, but went deeper into the year.

2016 sucked lol. We had 4 days of cold. A freak snow that melted 36 hours later with temps in the 60's. That was it for that winter. Sure.. better then the garbage lately, but hardly a good winter. 2014-15 was the last winter we had basically.

15-16 was way better in SoMD than 14-15. We had another WSW on President's Day (some areas got more from that than the HECS), then another borderline WSW event in early March, and even an accumulating event in April. 14-15 was only really good if you were in the northern tier.

Of course both winters look amazing compared to the last two years here, so I'd take either of them at this point LOL

*glances at his 14/15 15/16 records*

    14/15- 33.7

    15/16- 33.4

    *has questions*

  4. NOT the most 'scientific' way to measure, but stuck the snowruler into 4" gauge and got 1.4", that plus 7 am reading is about 1.75" since it started early this morning. The small 'run' that is 95% dry behind the house is running about 10-12" deep right now.

I’ve mentioned this before here, but my memory of having driver’s ed in high school in western MD was when we took the car out with heavy snow falling.  As I was driving up I-68 climbing Martin’s Mt, the instructor told me to stay in the ruts created in the snow on the road by tractor trailers ahead of me.

There was no thought of not sending us out into a snowstorm.  Times surely have changed lol.

Awesome! I took my son out the week after he got his learners up to airport road KHSP(3700-4000 elevation) and turned him loose to learn how to drive in the snow. There was about 3-4 inches on the unplowed road and it was pouring. After a few spins and almost getting us into a ditch he figured it out and drove for about an hour with no issues. I allowed him to drive to Snowshoe at 16 because I had confidence in him after that and his driving around with me in the passenger seat every time it snowed/iced. He is 32 now, never had an issue in snow and has lived in Breck or Park City for the last 9 years.

  6. Flipped back and forth between rain/snow/sleet several times this morning. Mostly rain now and 35.1/34.4. Eyeballing the CoCoRaHS 4" gauge, I'd say another 3/4 inch has fallen since 7 am when I melted 0.33". A degree or two likely would have produced 6+ inches here.... EDIT, about 3/4 inch or so of 'slush' still on ground at 10:45 am.

    i'm gonna pull a Ji...

I can see the backend down near Hillsville/Wytheville area. I've had back and forth mix of sleet and freezing rain. Heavy at times but never more than a coating before it flips to the liquid variety. Currently 31.6/31.0 and freezing rain. Trees are pretty lol.

Update. So, had 0.07 at 7 am CoCoRaHS reading, looking like another 3/4 inch is in the 4" gauge part since and it is still coming down at a decent rate. Just IMAGINE what that would have looked like with just a touch better upper levels and even a 7 or 8 to 1 ratio.....
