  1. Only 0.41 when I dumped the CoCoRaHS this morning. SHARP cutoff from I-81 west on the rain totals. But the WIND is roaring lol. Stuck at 40-42 all day and night until around 1 am, then it spiked to a 47 high before starting to fall and the winds began to crank. 'Shoe and Canaan have already went to snow, along with the Rt 250 camera in Highland Co. Currently 39.9/34.3 and falling with a NW wind at 14 gusting to 27 mph. MAYBE the flakes make it here later???

I just created r/mid_atlantic_wx as a private community.

I’m honestly not a big Reddit contributor, though I read it a lot. Figured it can’t hurt to create that sub just in case things somehow go TU here.

What's a Reddit?? Is there a Bluedit or Greendit? Just asking....

How far is everyone willing to travel? Columbia has a recently opened taproom (Cushwa) that has a separate room and pizza. If anyone was up for it, maybe we could meet up between Christmas and New Years.

Not a drinker, but definitely would enjoy seeing everyone again!

Just to clarify, I wasn’t trying to say we are in an arctic blast good winter weather pattern, but rather that all the doom and gloom torch comments based on weeklies hasn’t panned out here at least.  My area is only about 2 degrees higher than the December average and we haven’t made it yet to the second half of the month which tends to be colder than the first half obviously.

In the end, I think there is a decent to good chance that December ends up being very very similar to previous Decembers wrt average temps here in Augusta County.  Admittedly, I don’t follow metro temps closely, but given the latest guidance from the ops I would not be surprised to see DCA within a degree of normal when averaged at the end of the month.  Time will tell.

Agree. Running a +2.6 for the month here so far. Blazing? No. Will it stay above normal by the end of the month? Maybe. Is it better than the record breaking +10.3 from Dec 2015, absolutely.

  5. So wife and I walked up to the mailbox together about 15 minutes ago (about 300 steps each way). 33 degrees, she put on a coat, scarf, gloves and was freezing before we got back, I slipped on a pair of loafers and went in my short sleeve T-shirt, it felt wonderful lol.

    I'll just take P1, P7, P10, P11, P14 or P21, I'm not picky....

Yep.  I mean, snow fell for a time, but nothing heavy enough to accumulate anywhere.  Complete white rain.  Even the rain was whimpy; we only got .9"

Ditto here. I sit at 1300 +- elevation. ALMOST started turning things white once or twice, but rates just weren't enough to overcome the temps (36-37). However, JUST above me (1800-2000 and up) 1-3 inches fell. By the time I was 34-35 degrees precip was moving east.

Time to accept we all need to move to the mountains. Or quit our jobs and build a big lake somewhere to the west.

You HAVE a lake to the west, what you need to do is build a 5K tall mountain chain somewhere east of DC. You could even steal the rocks and dirt from the western mountains to double down lol.

  9. Currently 51.9/50.2 and rain here. Hit 'high' for the period around 4 am (57.1) while it was thundering lol. Yesterday never crossed 50, and dropped into low 40's after sunset. NWS started backtracking off the 62 high around 9 am and never caught the actual number. Temps climbed like crazy after midnight.
