From Kat Campbell at WRAL:  WHAT. A. NIGHT. Starting today at 4 PM we mentioned what was new was a slight shift east in the models. This was good news for most because it meant more snow and less ice but it would lower totals in our western counties. That trend has continued but in a more dramatic fashion this evening.
The American and high resolution models shifted the low pressure far enough east to cut areas near Raleigh north and west entirely out of the winter storm on Friday (though still wintry precipitation with some accumulation Thursday evening and night). The European model and its ensembles does not do this and holds on to our original thinking.
It's important that we start addressing these major changes and trends tonight but we aren't tanking snowfall to 0 yet for the following reasons:
-The European model has been doing far better with this system since day 1 and the ensembles didn't budge either
-This dramatic change happened on the mid-runs of models which do not feed as much data into them (no weather balloons) as the main runs...if this trend continues overnight on those then it more concerning
-We will still see impactful winter weather and accumulations on Thursday night (including the Triangle) and parts of our viewing area will still see a major winter storm Friday
-Models have a track record of shifting lows NW as we get closer to the events during the winter months

Major winter storm in the Triangle?  What is she looking at? Maybe for Elizabeth City.

I hate S va and western NC. They have no idea how living the the Sandhills is.

But you should realize by now that  it is tough to get a good snow in your area. It is rare for a good size storm in the hills there.

I wouldnt expect any snow if I lived in the low country.  I mean it is pretty far south and it is even more rare to get some snow there. What's your average there .1" per season?

Picked up 1.70” today for a mtd total of 6.53.” Really making our dry fall seem even more distant. High of 37.4 (though this may not be correct as my weather station was coated in ice most of the day) and a low of 25.7

This must be a dry micro climo here.  Only picked up .67" here

It’s been over 3 years since I had a snow stick to the pavement at my house… And ver 3 years since we’ve seen more than 2.5” of snow. I think us (the Raleigh crowd) have the right to be frustrated when without at doubt the best winter storm opportunity since December 2018 (which even here turned to a rainy mess) decides to turn to rain and 34 degrees

you are spot on bro. It has been a long time since we've had a plowable snow.  Im happy for our friends west and in SC getting a wintry event while we get the liquid rain this time around but yeah I miss the real snow

It's been so nice to be back in the forum! My life kind of changed in 2020 with the birth of my first daughter. Being a dad is very important, so other things took a back seat. Then the pandemic hit with all its uncertainty. Then the supply shortages hit at work and we have been swamped. So, it's been nice to be back forecasting weather once again. I told my wife that I missed it so much, but the break probably helped me gather myself. I am hoping to become more active again.

Congrats on your becoming a Dad. Im sure it is very exciting for you and the Mrs.  Welcome back to the forum too.

  7. So we had to get a new router Saturday since Spectrum blows.  So we got it all set up and it is working fine.  The only issue Im having is the Weather link app on my Iphone is registering what it showing on my panel at home.   Im assuming I need to change the wifi router name since it is a brand new one.  But where in the hell do I do that? Ive search all over Davis weatherlink and the app and no where gives me the chance to connect to my new router.     It is odd since my Davis vanatage Pro 2 connected to it without me doing a thing to it.  Now I know I am pretty dumb with technology but doe anyone have any advice or an idea on how to get it to work on the app on my phone?

    Thanks
