  1. left the house at 4am, skied until almost to 4 and got home around 830. Great day at the Loaf with a dear friend who I've known for almost 50 years and with whom we both skied at SLoaf for the first time 41 years ago while freshman in college. Pack is deep, the conditions were quite good, some early wind holds left only King Pine open early in the day but the SuperQuad and Skyline lifts both came on line before 11. Another great day in western Maine.
  2. I nordic skied in the morning at Jackson Ski Touring Ctr using my Indy Pass. I drove up Carter Notch Road and skied in their Prospect Farm area - the highest elevation terrain. A ton of snow and the conditions were great although things were softening when I finished just before noon. I then drove over to Black Mtn thinking I'd use my IndyPass there too. Wrong, only one redemption per day allowed! I was booted up and standing at the ticket window when this came to my attention... I sucked it up and bought a half day ticket. Only the mid mountain lift was open - not sure why the summit lift wasn't - anyway, the snow was sticky and the available terrain was tame. Anything that was in the sun and hadn't gotten snowmaking was almost bare and closed. Just a spectacular day weather wise...
  3. Their website said they were limiting ticket sales anyway to try to limit lift line queues to 20 minutes. Was thinking of getting there on Friday but think there is going to be too much non-frozen precipitation.
  4. Two photos this morning at WaWa - posted earlier there was about 16" on the summit. Snow was super dense and actually not particularly fun to ski...the 93 under foot wasn't the right tool! Beautiful on the mountain though.
  5. just back from skinning at WaWa - easy 16" on summit around 7:30 - Rain/Snow line is the prison rotary in Concord.
  6. just arrived home from Cannon - spectacular day skiing - sun and just the right temperature. No complaints. Just looking at forecast and was hoping they would pick up 12"+ from this next storm but doesn't look like it.
  7. went over and skied at Crotched last night for 3 hours - ski on the entire time but more folks (kids) there after dinner time. conditions were quite good and they have a nice base of snow. Flurries most of the time we skied which provided a nice vibe. such a good utilitarian ski hill. Whenever I go, it takes me back to teaching and skiing with my kids when they were young.
  8. Been to Telluride once, great place to ski. Stayed in town near the gondola and it was very nice. A friend sent this to me later
  9. Great day at Saddleback - guessing 12+" - just fantastic skiing everywhere but especially in the woods with nothing lurking underneath. Some wind holds in the AM but was able to avoid. Back tomorrow.
  10. This morning was my first cross country ski in my domicile - concord ma - this season. Amazingly, the 1-2" of snow that fell overnight that covered the locked up 2-3" of sleet, snow and freezing rain that had fallen last week provided a perfect surface In a normal winter, this is something I would have done at least a dozen or two times at this point in the season. Walden Pond looks to be pretty much covered in a very thin layer of ice - perhaps the first time this season! All very crazy. Regardless, it was great.
  11. day 2 of my 2 Indy days at Waterville Valley. What a great day. High winds delayed the summit lift - but I was probably the first person top via the old sunnyside lift - and the wind blew all day but the entire mountain is now open with exception of the woods - although some terrain in there was open and being skied. The lift on the new POD of trails never ran due to high winds and it looks pretty susceptible to wind closures. Groomers left a good deal of the terrain ungroomed so basically skied wind pack, small powder bumps all day. There is a good amount boilerplate under the new snow but with moderate traffic, it wasn't an issue except around the lift off-ramps. 5 hours skiing straight top to bottom ski runs - need to get those legs in shape for spring bumps!
  12. just back from shoveling 2" of heavy, compacted sleet snow. 32 at both the local school and KBED. Temperature stood steady all night. Light snow currently in 01742.
  13. Good choice. Great mountain especially when they have natural snow and although I haven't been there in years, Killington sucks everyone away and I can't think of when I've really had to wait in line there.
  14. KBED reporting 35. The local school says 37 but snowing lightly in the 01742.
  15. all the doom/gloom on the other threads made me look at the saddleback and SLoaf webcams snow top and bottom at bottom places...
  16. 2nd day at BEast on my IndyPass. Sun was partially out in the morning - mid-40s when I left at 1:30pm. They had made snow the last couple of nights trying to recover. Folks said the crowds were the smallest of the season. I really like that mountain and I've never really been there when you could ski in the woods!
  17. Anyone following the last man standing event at ski the whites, once again crazy
  18. Kind of shocked to see that much snow in your pictures honestly.
  19. Went pond skating, the thickness is fine but the surface got too soft in the sun during the hour I was there... fear that may be it, the sum total of my outdoor skating this winter - 1 hour!
  20. Got a new pair of skates XMAS '80 and walked up to the local pond just south of Boston to try them out that afternoon - didn't last long. Plan to lace the same pair up later this PM at one of the local ponds in metrowest that looked safe this AM on inspection when things warm up a bit!
  21. top of saddleback now at -35. https://www.weatherlink.com/embeddablePage/show/9a49cc37130f4a1cbf0064d9a3933113/summary
  22. woke up at 230 and checked the local school weather station, 30, took the dog out for his walk a bit before 7, 21, currently 18 in concord ma
  23. go snowshoeing or xc skiing and stick to the woods - that's my plan on Saturday. You will expend so much energy, you won't get cold. Dress in layers so you can shed but wear an outer layer that blocks the wind.
  24. I had planned to head up and take a few runs on the sherburne this am and then ski at Black in PM but just didn't have the energy this morning. Just looked at the webcam at Wildcat - heavy snow - regretting my decision! Snowing hard at SLoaf too.
