  1. I get the frustration but that’s the way the proverbial cookie crumbles. Companies make decisions that employees may not like.
  2. Yeah for us it was an easy decision but I probably would have no matter work being a health worker during my full time work days.
  3. I am not sure what you are saying.....unless things get catastrophic 1918 style lockdowns are over-and frankly other than public transportation including air and rail and the health care system masks are not required. Each company assesses their risk and determines what to do based on their risk management. That’s how private enterprise works. As airlines require employees to be vaccinated, I think you’ll see that fact being advertised and the public shying away from those that don’t.
  4. So at the beginning of the pandemic, I saw some presentations by docs who treated the first wave. They stated that morbidly obese have the highest risk of severe disease and death so this isn’t new-anyone matching covid obits and pictures could see it. However, plenty of low risk people got it, survived, but are long haulers. I get the return to normalcy but none of us have fun having a cold either. Avoidance of a disease having a higher mortality and morbidity rate than what might be acceptable to the health care system makes sense to me. I’m pretty confident I’d survive covid being vaccinated and reasonably healthy despite being in my mid 70s. But why would I want to test that presumption?
  5. Lines drawn in the sand. Let’s just try to find what most agree on and build from there.....I’m gonna start with snow....
  6. It looks like delta will be gone by autumn.
  7. Regarding federal enforcement of the workforce including contractors-it always takes a long time to execute but you would think this is sort of urgent or why bother? I think you’ll all have guidance within 1-2 weeks. Isn’t there a “by this date clause”?
  8. Lol....they’re indoors here at 100 also....but not me!
  9. Have a great time Dave! We’re hoping to go in the winter.
  10. I’m not sure how this narrative got started but have you ever been to FL in summer? Everyone is outside only coming in for the daily downpours. I mean with this logic everyone from NYC south would huddle indoors all summer.
  11. It will still change to rain in Eastie....
  12. This Is my sense....opinion but I’m unsure how accurate is but I’m starting to sense it is correct. Vaccine efficacy appears to wane around 6 months out. I’m hearing vaccinated health care workers in front line jobs getting covid at a higher rate starting about a month ago...and these people were probably fully vaccinated January some time. Didn’t matter which vaccine. So boosters are probably needed at some point. The other point that is more opinion and less hard fact is the sense that while delta is very contagious it is less deadly by a good amount from the original covid. Now-regarding steak and flip flops.....I have to have my steak medium rare-fuk the cdc. Kind of like turkey-if you let it hit 180 in the deepest parts it’s gonna be really dry. I don’t wear flip flops and in fact when in public my toes which would make people vomit it they saw them must be covered. Decades of running have ruined my toes. So there.....
  13. I’m sorry for your loss sugarloaf1989.
  14. BMI can be really flawed. Many fit and low fat athletes would come in as obese.
  15. Big Mike was a moron. Vegas with no sunscreen in July. Darwin wins.
  16. Makes sense. I go to MEEI as part of my cataract post op and of course the initial evaluation and surgery itself. Each visit results in a new mask as required from their dispenser in the screening area. Looking forward to OS-OD has great results!
  17. Since everybody masks now-how is it enforced?
  18. I believe it was the Trump administration that enforced flu shots for VA all employees with the alternative masking for 6 months at work. Since this was all before covid it created an obvious segregation and there was nearly 100% compliance. Not sure how they enforce the flu shots mandate now but as of last September they were talking removal.
  19. I don’t think government employees and contractors are required to vax. The carrot and stick is vax or submit to weekly testing. I believe some private sector companies are more strict.
  20. The problem is we are like 50 different countries each with their own rules and wide open borders with no restrictions. Covid will be with us until the worst outbreak states die down permanently. Those states will probably move around but I think our size as a nation makes this impossible to control.
  21. Actually been adjunct since I retired. Now the dilemma in October when I pass the ethics time barrier and can work for people doing business with the government. I’m choosing to do about 10 hours/week with one group mainly based on the high level of ethics with the president of the company. The guy is a mensch as I told my wife and he has a viable product. The $$ is stupid high-between that and the few hours adjunct I’ll get paid as much as my pension, SS, and IRA (rolled over entire TSP) distribution combined which essentially doubles the $$ I made while working as a 15/10 with 21% add on for retention. Do the math-not bad for never having to get up before 10AM. You will be sought after post retirement and the trick is to make sure you don’t take on too much. After the one company (October gig) made the $$ offer I had to make sure it wasn’t too many hours. When he told me I pinched myself...lol.
  22. Update on my nephew. Anti vaxer dad got pretty sick with covid and was staying in my nephew’s small apartment and then got on a plane Sunday night (7/25). My fully vaccinated nephew got sick Sunday and was confirmed delta and is symptom free starting today. Thank you vaccination. My understanding is his dad is pretty sick. Athletic fit guy but around 60 years old. I mentioned that I’m now masking indoors in big places like supermarkets but otherwise life is the same, eating out indoors or outside, hanging out with whomever.....but for a month. I totally didn’t mask. Then again I’m in my mid 70s. Part time university job is requiring vaccination for all staff on campus. I’m good with that but most of the work I do for them is remote.
